Jaffna Kings bulldozed Galle Gallants in the first qualifier of the LPL 2026 season at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The outcome helped the defending champions storm into yet another LPL final.
Under the leadership of explosive top-order batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the Jaffna-based franchise has now matched IPL’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Big Bash’s Perth Scorchers for a huge world record.
Jaffna Kings level up with CSK and Perth Scorchers
Jaffna Kings franchise has stormed into the final of the LPL 2026 season. The season’s table-toppers will now face either the Galle Gallants or the winner of the impending Eliminator later this weekend in Colombo.

Remarkably, the Jaffna-based franchise has now qualified for the final of an LPL season a total of five times in the first six editions of the tournament. Even though the defending champions returned to the LPL lore on a controversial note with its new owners, the team broke through the shackles by securing five wins from seven completed league fixtures.
By reaching their latest final, the Jaffna Kings franchise has now levelled up with IPL heavyweights CSK and Big Bash champions Perth Scorchers for an all-time world record.
Both CSK and Perth Scorchers franchises also reached the finals of IPL and BBL respectively a record five times in their first six editions.
Much like CSK, Perth Scorchers and the Jaffna Kings; the South Africa-based Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) is another T20 franchise that is on a similar path of complete domination. The Sunrisers have already reached the final in each of SA20’s four editions so far, and even won the title clash on three of those occasions.
How Jaffna Kings has surpassed CSK and Perth Scorchers legacy
Some might say, the Jaffna Kings franchise has even surpassed the legacy of CSK and Perth Scorchers in franchise T20 cricket. While each of the three aforementioned franchises reached the final five times in the first six editions of their respective leagues, the Jaffna Kings managed to lift the title four times in their first five years itself.
Under the leadership of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the team started out the ongoing LPL 2026 season in Sri Lanka as defending champions for lifting the coveted silverware back in the previous edition of the tournament.
The CSK franchise, on the other hand, won the IPL title twice in their first six years in the league. Interestingly, the franchise did make it to playoffs on each occasion, and the reached the final five times, all under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
The Perth Scorchers, meanwhile, thrice lifted the Big Bash trophy in its first six seasons in Australia, but managed to reach the semifinals on all six occasions and made it to the final in five of them.
Jaffna Kings in with a chance of extending its LPL domination
The Bhanuka Rajapaksa-led Jaffna Kings will now face either Galle Gallants, Colombo Kaps or Kandy Royals in the final of the LPL 2026 season on Saturday, August 8. The match will be hosted by the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
If Jaffna Kings manages to win the impending LPL 2026 final, the franchise will lift its fifth LPL title in its sixth season to extend its domination in the league.
Moreover, the franchise will also extend its difference with CSK and Perth Scorchers to become the most dominating unit in T20 league history.
