The first Test of the three-match series between New Zealand and hosts England in June 2026 is turning out to be a landmark occasion for everyone, except for the 22 players involved in the field. For starters, the iconic Lord’s Stadium in London became the first venue in the world to host 150 Test matches, reaching the feat when home captain Ben Stokes flipped the coin 30 minutes before the first ball was bowled.
Rod Tucker, one of the two on-field umpires of the match, also scaled a landmark figure for himself. The match marked the 100th Test as an umpire for the former Australian domestic cricketer, thus becoming only the fourth umpire in history to do so.
Rod Tucker becomes fourth umpire to complete 100 Tests
The ex-Tasmania and New South Wales cricketer became only the fourth on-field umpire in history to complete 100 Tests, joining South Africa’s Rudi Koertzen, Pakistan’s Aleem Dar and controversial West Indies former umpire Steve Bucknor. Here is a look at some of the on-field umpires with most Test appearances to their names.

A brief look at Rod Tucker’s umpiring journey
Rod Tucker, who officiated in his first Test way back in 2010 in Hamilton, has also officiated in 42 additional Test matches, albeit as a television umpire. Overall, he has officiated in 142 Tests as an on-field and a television umpire combined.
Tucker has also officiated in 184 men’s ODIs, 95 T20Is, six Women’s ODIs and six Women’s T20I matches in his 16-year-long umpiring career.
He has stood in numerous ODI and T20I World Cup games, including the final of the 2016 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He was also one of the umpires in the thrilling 2015 World Cup semifinal between South Africa and New Zealand, and was a member of the umpiring panel in the 2019 and 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups in England and India respectively.
England vs New Zealand halted due to rains
New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and opted to field first. Batting first, England lost opener and debutant Emilio Gay for just eight off 14 balls.
The cricketer edged towards Daryl Mitchell at first slip in the sixth over of the match off the bowling of lanky paceman Kyle Jamieson.
Senior opener Ben Duckett and number three Jacob Bethell seem to have made way from England’s usual ‘BazBall’ approach, as both cricketers employed cautiousness at the start of their innings. After reaching 24-1 in 10 overs, rains prevented further play for the time being in London.
