A Record Even Virat Kohli Doesn’t Have! Yashasvi Jaiswal Joins Sachin Tendulkar After 30 Tests

Yashasvi Jaiswal played his 30th Test match on Saturday (August 15) when he came to open the innings for India at Galle International Stadium. In the process, he made a unique record, a list only two Indians have been part of, with one being none other than Sachin Tendulkar.

Jaiswal has never played two Test matches at one single venue yet. In other words, all his Test matches have been played at different venues. Sachin Tendulkar had his first 32 Test matches in 32 different venues, while Sanjay Manjrekar holds this unique record of playing his first 33 Test matches in 33 different venues.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, had his first 11 Test matches in different venues. He returned to play at Wankhede twice in his 12th Test match, against England. Thus, he could not go on to join Sachin Tendulkar.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Test journey began in July 2023 against West Indies in Roseau. He made an immediate impact, making 171 runs in his debut. Since then, he has always been consistent whenever he got the opportunity in red-ball cricket.

At present, Jaiswal has 2567 runs at an average of 48.43, with the strike rate of 66.29, indicating he has always been aggressive at the top, very similar to India's very own Virender Sehwag.

Moreover, Jaiswal, if he does not get injured in the near future, will go on to match Sachin Tendulkar and is on his way to break Sanjay Manjrekar’s record.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has never played a Test match in Sri Lanka. Thus, after an unfortunate run-out in Galle, the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo will be his 31st at different venues.

After that, India will play its next Test match in New Zealand. Jaiswal has never played a Test match there either. If he stays fit, he will be in action during the two-match Test series, later in November 2026.

Virat Kohli, A Test Great! Jaiswal Still At Early Stage

However, talking about Virat Kohli’s Test legacy, there are only a few from India who can come close to him. Tendulkar, of course, will always remain the GOAT of all formats, but Kohli was not far behind him until the COVID came to the world.

Still, Kohli finishes his Test career with impressive numbers. Jaiswal, on the other hand, is still in the early stages. So, in terms of consistency and longevity, Jaiswal still has a lot to do to reach Kohli's level. Any comparison with Sachin Tendulkar will come later.
