Sri Lanka on Thursday (August 13) confirmed their squad for Women’s Asia Cup 2026. To shut out the outside noise, they kept Chamari Athapaththu as captain.
Athapaththu, one of the finest ever all-rounders in women’s cricket, expressed her disappointment after the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Under her leadership, Sri Lanka won three and lost two in the competition.
Even though Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand, their defeat against West Indies did not allow them to advance to the knockout stage.
However, the 36-year-old will keep on trying to win the silverware when the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 gets underway on August 28.

While Athapaththu will work as Sri Lanka’s captain, Harshitha Samarawickrama, a well-known top-order batter, has been picked as her deputy for the Women’s Asia Cup 2026.
Apart from them, Dewmi Vihanga has been picked for the first time by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for T20Is, while Mithali Ayodhya and Chethana Vimukthi have been added as well.
19-year-old Ayodhya took four wickets in five matches in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England, at an economy rate of 6.47. Chethana Vimukthi, on the other hand, played in the Women's T20 WC Warm-up 2026, but could not find a place when the actual competition began.
17-year-old Sanjana Kavindi, who impressed with the bat during the recent Sri Lanka vs Pakistan T20Is, having made 66 runs in two innings in her senior international debut series, will be there in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 as well.
