After several days of the West Indies getting knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the team, along with their coach Daren Sammy, are yet to take their flight back to their home country due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and major military conflict in the Middle East.

This has paralysed major transit hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and Daren Sammy, the coach of the West Indies, along with the entire Caribbean team, is currently staying in India and receiving hospitality due to the unavoidable circumstances.

Daren Sammy Cries For Help To Go back Home

Regarding the delay in going back home, Sammy has posted a series of tweets on his X handle that sarcastically sound like a cry for help to return home.

West Indies played their last game in the T20 World Cup 2026 on March 1, and since then, until March 7, they have been stuck in the country, unable to get back home. Now, Sammy’s frequent social media postings has gained global attention as he kept posting a series of frustrated messages.

Most famously, a four-word plea, “I just wanna go home,” went viral among netizens. On March 5, Sammy took to his X handle demanding updates and clarity after five days of silence regarding their route home.

Later, he posted that he received an update, which was what they wanted. However, as of March 7, Sammy again posted an update that simply said “Day 6,” which underlines the fact that the entire Caribbean team is still in India.

Following the public plea from Daren Sammy and Co., the International Cricket Council and Cricket West Indies finalised alternate travel arrangements. The team is now set to return home via a chartered flight, with the route expected to go through London or fly directly to Antigua.

Netizens Bash Sammy’s Act Of Wanting Help

The internet, however, was not very pleased with Sammy’s act of sarcastically poking at the management, as many criticised his reaction and called it overacting.

Some fans pointed out that despite receiving proper rest and luxury during their stay, he continued to complain about the delay. One fan even brought up the context that the Indian team also had to stay back in Barbados for a couple of days after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

Let’s take a look at how netiznes reacted to Daren Sammy’s posts on X:

India Kicks The Windies Out of T20 World Cup 2026

For the unaware, South Africa had a solid group stage performance before their exit in the Super 8. They began their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign in strong form, defeating Scotland, England, Nepal, and Italy, bagging eight points with an unbeaten run and a positive net run rate of 1.874.

However, their Super 8 stage was not as impressive as their group stage fixtures. They began with a solid win over Zimbabwe by 107 runs. However, they lost their next match to Australia by 9 wickets, and it became a do-or-die situation against India.

Unfortunately, the West Indies couldn't manage to bag a win against India, as the Men in Blue won the match by 5 wickets while chasing their target of 196 runs with four balls remaining.
