Jordan Cox catch drop wasn't taken lightly by RCB fans on the internet [Source: X and AFP]
Jordan Cox, one of RCB's IPL 2026 auction buys, came into the final to play his debut match for the franchise and his first game of the season, but made a blunder that could give him nightmares.
During the RCB vs GT IPL 2026 final on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Cox dropped a crucial catch of Washington Sundar on the final ball of the 10th over.
Although it was not a straightforward drop, a catch initially given out was overturned after a review by the third umpire.
How Did Jordan Cox Drop The Crucial Catch In RCB vs GT IPL Final?
As it happened, the final ball of the 10th over bowled by Jacob Duffy to Washington Sundar was a short delivery. Sundar got inside the line of the ball and attempted to send it over deep fine leg.
However, Jordan Cox ran in from the boundary and dived forward to take the catch. As RCB started celebrating the effort, the on-field umpire asked Sundar to wait while the TV umpire was consulted.
Replays showed that the celebration was premature, as TV umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal ruled in favour of the batter. Although Jordan Cox appeared to have grasped the ball, he was not in complete control of it.

Effort Wasted After Replay Decision
As he dived forward, the ball touched the ground, with his fingers beside the ball rather than underneath it, as required to complete a fair catch.
Since the ball made contact with the grass, Madanagopal ruled the batter not out, and Washington Sundar was called back to continue his innings.
This poor catching technique was brutally criticised by netizens online, with Jordan Cox facing heavy criticism on social media.
Let's take a look at how fans reacted to Cox's missed catch.
What Does The Rule Says?
As per MCC Law 33, a catch is completed only when the fielder has full control of both the ball and their own movement.
In Jordan Cox's case, that requirement was not met, as the ball touched the ground with his fingers beside it rather than underneath it. Technically, this resulted in an incomplete catch.
According to the law, if a fielder presses the ball onto the ground while attempting to complete the catch or loses control of the ball, the catch is deemed incomplete and the batter is not out.
That was precisely the case with Washington Sundar, whose dismissal was overturned after the third umpire's review.

Gujarat Titans In Dire Situation After Batting First
Nevertheless, the lifeline given to Washington Sundar was not enough to keep Gujarat Titans alive in the contest. Before reaching 100 runs, GT had already lost five wickets, with their top-order batters Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler falling for modest scores.
None of them managed to cross the 20-run mark. Brilliant spells from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Rasikh Salam left the GT batting lineup struggling from the very beginning, leading to the loss of two wickets inside the powerplay.
The dismissals of Nishant Sindhu, Buttler, and Arshad Khan further deepened GT's troubles, scripting a painful memory for the franchise on the night of the IPL 2026 final.
