A fresh controversy has surfaced during the ongoing IPL 2026 season after a person sitting in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) dugout was allegedly seen using a mobile phone during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

As a result, fans on social media once again started questioning the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its strict rules regarding electronic devices during matches.

Similar Incident Took Place In IPL 2026

Interestingly, this incident comes only a few weeks after RR manager Romi Bhinder was caught using a phone in the dugout during Rajasthan Royals’ match against RCB in Guwahati.

At that time, the matter created major controversy because the IPL has very strict rules regarding the use of phones and communication devices inside restricted areas during matches.

What Are BCCI’s PMOA Rules For Electronic Devices?

According to the IPL’s Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) protocol, team managers are allowed to use mobile phones only inside the dressing room. However, phones and communication devices are not permitted in the dugout area.

In addition, only designated analysts are allowed to use computers and other electronic systems from a specific analyst table.

Following the RR incident, the BCCI took strong action against Romi Bhinder. Notably, Bhinder was fined ₹1 lakh for violating the PMOA protocol. Furthermore, the BCCI also issued him a warning after reportedly being unhappy with his explanation to the board’s showcause notice. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the punishment to PTI on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Meanwhile, during Sunday’s afternoon IPL 2026 clash between CSK and LSG, the match had started on an exciting note after CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to field first.

However, during the opening over of the innings, social media users noticed a person in the LSG dugout allegedly using a mobile phone during the replay of Mitchell Marsh’s boundary towards square leg.

Social Media Reacts After Person Seen Using Phone In LSG Dugout

As soon as the visuals appeared on television, fans online began reacting strongly. Many users questioned whether the BCCI’s strict rules were being followed properly.

Some fans even pointed out that similar incidents are repeatedly happening despite the board introducing tighter restrictions this season.

One user wrote, “Saw someone in the LSG dugout with a phone. I thought that was not allowed.” However, it is still not officially clear whether the individual seen with the phone was actually part of the LSG support staff or someone else present in the dugout area.

BCCI Introduces Stricter Rules During IPL 2026

Importantly, the BCCI has recently become more serious regarding security and protocol breaches during IPL 2026. The board has already informed all franchises about potential risks such as targeted honey-trapping during the tournament.

In addition, the Indian board warned teams that such incidents could even lead to serious allegations, including misconduct cases involving players or officials.

Therefore, the board has instructed all teams, players, and support staff to strictly follow the newly issued guidelines. As part of these measures, players and officials are not allowed to keep communication devices with them inside restricted match areas.

With another phone-related controversy now grabbing attention, fans are eagerly waiting to see whether the BCCI will investigate the latest incident involving the alleged LSG member and if any action will follow.
