Former India cricketer and father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh, has heavily criticised the Punjab Kings (PBKS) fielders for the number of catches they have dropped in the recent few matches in the ongoing IPL 2026 tournament.

Catches are said to win games, and in T20 cricket, the margins are extremely narrow. Thus, it starts to show when a team that is securely positioned in the top half of the IPL table develops a habit of flooring sitters, like the Punjab Kings have been doing recently.

More than 16 drop catches by Punjab Kings in the recent three or four IPL matches

Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings has lost three straight games and been knocked off the top by Sunrisers Hyderabad after going undefeated in their first seven games. They can only blame their catching for this. For the record, Punjab has dropped 16 catches this season, which is the most so far.

Meanwhile, Yograj Singh, who runs a cricket academy in Chandigarh and someone who trained Yuvraj Singh into a world-class cricketer, was not happy with Punjab Kings cricketers and them dropping catches. These dropped catches have led PBKS to lose their top spot in the IPL 2026 points table.

Yograj Singh threatens Punjab Kings players over dropping catches

Speaking to famed journalist Vikrant Gupta on his show ‘Sports Tak,' Yograj Singh stated that if he were given the responsibility of training Punjab Kings, he would make life hell for them with strict discipline.

He even recalled how Bishan Singh Bedi trained the Delhi team, in which Virender Sehwag also played. He told Gupta that he should ask how Sehwag became a very good fielder and catcher. He revealed that Bishan Bedi used to give Sehwag 10-15 hard catches to take, leaving his hands paining and red from the force.

Shreyas Iyer, PBKS captain, talks about his players’ poor catching

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer stated his team paid the price for sloppy fielding, particularly early dropped catches. Punjab had a strong start to the season, he continued, but in order to keep up the pace, they must raise their fielding standards and consistency.

"It was a bit too much because we dropped catches at the start. The wicket kept getting slower. They played comprehensive cricket and showed us how to win the match. I feel we got a fairy tale start in the tournament, and everyone was in a great space. If we are going to continue with the same form, that's not going to help us… Unfortunately, we weren't able to take catches," Iyer said.

This season, PBKS has missed 16 of 56 opportunities, which is tied with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Out of the 10 teams, their catch efficiency of 71.43% is the lowest. The biggest culprit has been Shashank Singh, who had dropped 5 catches in the last two games she has played for Punjab Kings.

Punjab Kings will want to get their IPL 2026 campaign back on track after three straight losses. They will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 11, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
