Ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, the Chennai franchise has issued an important message for fans visiting the famous M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, popularly known as Chepauk.
At present, CSK are placed sixth on the IPL 2026 points table. The five-time champions have won five out of their 10 matches so far this season. Moreover, the team is coming into this contest with confidence after defeating Delhi Capitals in their previous game.
As the tournament enters a crucial stage, CSK will aim to continue their positive momentum and secure their sixth victory of the season. Therefore, the home match at Chepauk becomes extremely important for the team’s playoff hopes.
CSK Issues Fresh Advisory for Fans
The match, scheduled for Saturday, has created huge excitement among cricket lovers. However, CSK has requested supporters not to bring banners, flags, or hoardings linked to any political party or political leader into the stadium. The franchise asked fans to focus only on cricket and enjoy the festive atmosphere that Chepauk is known for.
In a social media post, Chennai Super Kings wrote, “Come celebrate cricket and the spirit of the game with us. Anbuden request our superfans to avoid bringing banners, flags or hoardings associated with any political party/person and enjoy the game with full yellove.”
Political Developments Add Sensitivity To CSK vs LSG Match
Interestingly, the advisory comes at a politically sensitive time in Tamil Nadu. On May 10, actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay was named Chief Minister-designate after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, successfully formed the government following extensive political negotiations.
In addition, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar officially appointed Vijay after he received support from 120 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly. Vijay is expected to take oath as Chief Minister on Sunday, May 10.
Because of this major political event, Chennai is expected to witness celebrations across the city. As a result, there were concerns that political slogans, flags, or celebrations could spill over into the cricket stadium during the CSK match.

It is important to note that Chepauk has always been famous for its energetic crowd, colourful banners, and loud chants. CSK’s fan culture is strongly linked with the iconic “Whistle Podu” slogan, which has become one of the most recognizable identities in Indian cricket.
“Whistle” Symbol Creates Unique Situation
However, the whistle has now gained political significance as well because it is also associated with TVK’s political symbol. Consequently, the connection has made the atmosphere around the stadium more sensitive than usual.
Earlier this year, a similar controversy took place during the Men's T20 World Cup 2026. At that time, several fans reportedly faced difficulties carrying whistles into the stadium. Reports also suggested that police stopped vendors from selling whistles outside the venue.
Even though the political backdrop has attracted public attention, CSK clearly wants the spotlight to remain on cricket. The franchise hopes fans will continue Chepauk’s tradition of passionate yet positive support without bringing politics into the stands.
