The BCB announced Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday. The 15-member squad will once again be led by experienced captain Nigar Sultana Joty, while Nahida Akter has been named vice-captain for the tournament.
Notably, Bangladesh will begin their T20 World Cup journey on 14 June with a match against the Netherlands Women at Edgbaston in Birmingham. This opening game is expected to be very important for Bangladesh as they aim to start the tournament on a strong note.
Bangladesh Women To Play Tri-Series Before the T20 World Cup 2026
Before the World Cup begins, the team will travel to Edinburgh on 25 May to take part in a tri-series featuring Scotland Women and the Netherlands Women.
This series will help the players prepare for the big event and improve their match practice. After completing the tri-series, Bangladesh will move to Loughborough for their warm-up matches ahead of the tournament.
Bangladesh Set For Seventh T20 World Cup Appearance
Meanwhile, this will be Bangladesh’s seventh appearance in the Women’s T20 World Cup. The team first played in the competition in 2014 and has continued to grow in international women’s cricket since then. In the previous edition of the tournament in 2024, Bangladesh performed well and won their opening match against Scotland by 16 runs.
It is important to note that earlier this year, Bangladesh earned their place in the T20 World Cup through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Global Qualifier.
The team delivered an impressive performance throughout the competition. They remained unbeaten during both the group stage and the Super Six stage, eventually finishing at the top of the table.
Notably, BCB has selected a balanced Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 squad that combines experienced players with exciting young talent for the upcoming tournament.
The batting lineup will mainly rely on Nigar Sultana Joty, Sharmin Akter Supta, Sobhana Mostary, and Dilara Akter to provide stability and consistency.
Meanwhile, youngsters like Shorna Akter and Marufa Akter are expected to add aggression and fresh energy to the Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Additionally, all-rounders Ritu Moni and Sultana Khatun bring important balance to the team with their ability to contribute in both batting and bowling departments.
It is important to note that Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 squad’s biggest strength remains their bowling attack. Nahida Akter, Sultana Khatun, Shanjida Akther Maghla, and Fahima Khatun will lead the spin department.
Meanwhile, Marufa Akter is expected to lead the pace unit once again with her aggressive bowling style, alongside Fariha Islam Trisna and Ritu Moni.
