During a recent IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, an unusual incident grabbed everyone’s attention. The RR vs RCB match was held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Friday, April 10.
Although RR won the match comfortably, a member of their staff was seen using a mobile phone in the dugout during the live game. This raised questions among fans about whether such behaviour is allowed under the rules.
RCB post a daunting target
RCB batted first and managed to score 201/8 in their 20 overs. Their captain, Rajat Patidar played an important innings of 63 runs. In addition, Venkatesh Iyer contributed some quick runs at the end. Even though Royals bowlers like Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi took early wickets, RCB still managed to cross the 200 mark.
However, RR’s batting was even stronger. While chasing 202 runs, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored a quick 78 runs. At the same time, Dhruv Jurel remained not out on 81 runs. Together, they built a strong partnership of 108 runs.
RR beat RCB by six wickets
Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja added a useful unbeaten 24 runs. As a result, Royals successfully chased the target in just 18 overs and won the match by six wickets. Consequently, they extended their winning streak to four matches, while RCB faced their first loss of the season.
Notably, during RCB’s innings, an incident in the dugout caught the attention of viewers. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was seen sitting next to Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder.
At that moment, Bhinder was spotted using a mobile phone during the live match and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was seen peeking at his phone's screen. Because of this, many fans started questioning whether mobile phones are allowed in the dugout or if team staff can use them during matches.

What Do BCCI rules say?
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), there are strict rules regarding electronic devices during matches. These rules are part of the “Minimum Standards for Players and Match Officials Areas” (PMOA).
Firstly, mobile phones and other communication devices are generally not allowed in these restricted areas. However, there are a few exceptions. For example, the team manager is allowed to use a phone inside the dressing room, but not in the dugout.
Secondly, analysts are permitted to use computers, but only at a designated analyst table. Furthermore, players and support staff must switch off their devices and hand them over for safe storage when they arrive at the stadium.
In addition, even accredited staff like attendants and catering workers are not allowed to carry communication devices inside these areas. Importantly, these rules are enforced at least 30 minutes before the team arrives.
In this situation, the RR team manager was seen using a mobile phone in the dugout, which is not allowed under the rules. However, it is still unclear what action the BCCI or IPL authorities will take.
Meanwhile, RR are currently at the top of the points table. Looking ahead, they are set to play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
