Yashasvi Jaiswal ticked all the boxes in his comeback ODI series against Afghanistan. After getting selected in the national squad in place of injured Virat Kohli, the attacking opener aggregated 114 runs in just two innings against Afghanistan in Lucknow and Chennai.
The left-hander listed 110* of those runs in the third ODI of the series from just 86 balls as India completed a comprehensive 3-0 sweep. The innings marked his second ODI century, with both occurring in the space of just three innings considering the youngster also notched up a match-winning ton against South Africa in December last year.
Despite his prolific run with the bat in the format, the 24-year-old has now been dropped from Team India squad for the upcoming ODI series in England.
Fans react as BCCI drops Yashasvi Jaiswal for England tour
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped from India squad for the upcoming ODI tour of England, despite his prolific run in the format. As one can expect, the decision of the BCCI selection committee did not go down well with the Indian fans, with several of them demanding the youngster’s inclusion in the squad in India’s road towards the 2027 World Cup next year.

Some fans even targeted former captain Rohit Sharma for taking up a spot in the national squad at the age of 39, even though the legendary opener has not scored runs at the same volume as Jaiswal off late. Here is a look at some of the fans defending the 24-year-old following his exclusion from the England tour.
Century and Dropped: A familiar tale for Yashasvi Jaiswal
Interestingly, this is not the first instance of Jaiswal scoring a match-winning ODI century before getting instantly dropped from the national side. Last December in Vizag, the attacking left-handed opener fired 116* runs off just 121 balls against South Africa as India secured a comprehensive nine-wicket win with more than 10 overs to spare to seal the three-match ODI series 2-1.
However, a month later, Jaiswal was dropped from the India squad for the home ODI series against New Zealand.
Now, the 24-year-old has been dropped from the Indian team for the England tour, immediately after notching up a match-winning ton against Afghanistan. Overall, Yashasvi Jaiswal averages a staggering 71.25 in his six-match ODI career so far, and seems like an ideal candidate to open the innings for India in their road towards the 2027 ICC World Cup in South Africa next year.
India wallop Afghanistan by nine wickets, Jaiswal lands the finishing blow
Chasing 219 runs in Chennai against Afghanistan on June 20, Yashasvi Jaiswal composed 110* runs off 86 balls with 14 boundaries and three huge sixes. The young opener launched one of those sixes to seal the deal in the 29th over as India completed a comprehensive 3-0 series sweep.
The innings marked his second ODI century, taking the cricketer’s tally to 285 runs from six innings.
India to tour England next month
Team India will tour England next month to play a series of five T20Is and three ODI matches. While the T20I side will be led by Shreyas Iyer to usher in a new era for the Indian team, the ODI series will form a crucial checkpoint for both sides before next year’s 2027 World Cup.
The ODI series will be played between July 14 and July 19, and it features the return of legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli, albeit subject to fitness clearance.
