The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against England on Sunday, June 21. India will tour England for three T20 Internationals followed by a three-match ODI series, which begins on July 14.
Notably, Shubman Gill will captain the Indian team in England for the first time in the 50-over format, while Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain.
Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah Included In India's ODI Squad For England Tour
The biggest talking point of India's squad for the England ODI series is the return of star batter Virat Kohli.
The former captain missed the recent ODI series against Afghanistan, which India won 3-0, after suffering a hamstring injury during the IPL final. However, his place in the squad is subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team before the tour begins.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has also made a comeback after being rested for the Afghanistan ODI series.
It is important to note that the upcoming England series will mark Bumrah's first appearance in the 50-over format since India's defeat to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
However, there is no place for star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the India ODI squad for England. Although there were hopes that the 32-year-old would recover in time for the series, the BCCI medical team has not yet cleared him to return to action, meaning his rehabilitation is still ongoing.
It is also important to mention that Ravindra Jadeja has been omitted from the side. Notably, the BCCI has not provided any official explanation regarding his absence.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Rested For England ODI Series
Meanwhile, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been rested despite scoring a brilliant century in the third ODI against Afghanistan at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
It is important to note that Yashasvi Jaiswal's exclusion has come as a surprise to many, especially after he opened the batting in two matches during the Afghanistan series and made a strong statement with a match-winning hundred.
However, the selectors appear to have preferred a more experienced top-order combination for the challenging conditions in England.

Gurnoor Brar, Harshit Rana Backed By The BCCI
On the bowling front, India have largely backed the pace attack that featured against Afghanistan ODI series, with Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Gurnoor Brar and left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh all retaining their spots in the India ODI squad for England. However, Prince Yadav has missed out on selection for the England tour.
It is important to note that the three-match ODI series will be played on July 14, 16 and 19, with the matches scheduled to take place at Edgbaston, Sophia Gardens and Lord's respectively.
