The PSL 2026 season came to an end on May 3 as Peshawar Zalmi beat Hyderabad Kingsmen to win the title. Winning captain Babar Azam, however, faced fans’ wrath for copying a legendary cricketer’s celebration.

Zalmi were in control throughout the game. They bowled out Kingsmen on just 129 runs in the first innings. In the chase, Aaron Hardie’s half-century sealed the deal.

Babar Azam trolled for PSL 2026 title-winning celebration

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi stormed the Gaddafi Stadium to celebrate their PSL 2026 title victory. Captain Babar Azam, interestingly, was lifted on the shoulders of his teammates as they honoured him with that gesture.

However, fans weren’t amused with that over-the-top celebration. Also, that gesture was similar to the one where Sachin Tendulkar was lifted by Team India after the 2011 World Cup win, as that tournament was Sachin’s last ICC event.

Fans on social media compared the two events and trolled Babar Azam for copying the legendary cricketer. The celebration didn’t make sense, as a PSL title is not equivalent to an ICC title.

Also, Babar had scored a golden duck in the final. Hence, to honour him by carrying him on the shoulder appeared meaningless.

Babar Azam failed trying to copy Rohit Sharma’s celebration

Apart from this, Babar Azam also failed the trophy-lifting celebration. After collecting the trophy from PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, Peshawar Zalmi tried to mimic Rohit Sharma’s 2024 T20 World Cup title-winning celebration.

However, the slow walk turned disastrous, and the entire act failed miserably. Needless to say, fans once again lashed out at Babar.

They circulated side-by-side clips, pointing out similarities in the pose and timing, with many humourously branding it a “cheap copy".

Memes and sarcasm flooded the social media platforms within minutes, turning the celebration into a trending topic.

Aaron Hardie became the real MVP for Peshawar Zalmi

Meanwhile, Aaron Hardie owned the night of the PSL 2026 final at Lahore. In the first innings, he picked up 4 wickets for 27 runs in his four overs, which forced Hyderabad Kingsmen into a devastating collapse.

Then, in the chase, Peshawar Zalmi had a false start as they lost both the openers in the first over. Babar Azam also got dismissed on a golden duck, thus putting Zalmi at risk.

However, Aaron Hardie stepped up, scoring 56* off 39 balls. Abdul Samad supported him, on the other hand, with 48 off 34 balls as the duo’s 85-run partnership guided Peshawar Zalmi to an easy victory.

Hyderabad Kingsmen, however, stood no chance against Zalmi as they failed to absorb pressure. Despite having a tremendous tournament in their debut season, they fell short against a much stronger and balanced side like Peshawar Zalmi.
