The IPL is not often rewarding to the bowlers, as the T20 format in general is more suitable for explosive batting. However, in the last 19 years, a few bowlers have stood out in the Indian Premier League.

Recently, KKR star Sunil Narine achieved a mega feat in his IPL career by picking crucial wickets against SRH in the IPL 2026 season. That milestone is something that puts him amongst the best spinners to ever play the league.

On that note, let’s look at five spinners with the most wickets in IPL history.

5. Ravindra Jadeja - 177 wickets

Veteran Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja ranks fifth in this list with 177 wickets in 233 innings at a 30.27 average. His best figures were 5/16. Jadeja has had an interesting career in the IPL. He made his debut with CSK before playing briefly for Gujarat Lions and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In IPL 2026, CSK traded him to the Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Sanju Samson. Overall, Ravindra Jadeja has competed in a total of 18 IPL seasons.

4. Ravichandran Ashwin - 187 wickets

Another legendary Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, grabbed 187 wickets in his glorious IPL career. He also debuted with CSK before representing Rising Pune Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Ashwin featured in a total of 221 IPL games, where he averaged 30.22 with a 7.20 economy. In IPL 2025, Ravichandran Ashwin played his final season for CSK and formally announced his retirement from the league.

3. Piyush Chawla - 192 wickets

At number three is former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla. After beginning his IPL career with PBKS, Chawla played for KKR, CSK and MI. In 192 games, he picked up 192 wickets at a 26.60 average. His best figures were 4/17, as he grabbed two four-wicket-hauls in his career. Piyush Chawla was a successful spinner in the IPL mainly due to his googlies and unorthodox action. After 16 years, he finally retired in 2024 after playing his final season with the Mumbai Indians.

2. Sunil Narine - 201 wickets

Veteran West Indies spinner Sunil Narine is seated at the second spot with 201 wickets in 197 IPL games. He has played 15 seasons with KKR alone and has been a part of all their title-winning squads. Narine has an average of 25.53 in his IPL career with 2 five-wicket-hauls as well. His peak came in his debut year itself, as he picked up 24 wickets in 15 games in the IPL 2012 season. To date, Sunil Narine is one of the most decorated spinners to have played in the IPL.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal - 228 wickets

At the top of the table is senior Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. In 182 games, he has picked up 228 wickets at 23.12 average and 8.02 economy. His best figures are 5/40. Not only that, Chahal has 8 four-fers and 1 fifer to his name. Chahal made his IPL debut with the Mumbai Indians before moving to RCB, where he spent 8 seasons.

With RCB, the leg-spinner broke into the scene and dominated world cricket for a few years after that. Yuzi also played for the Rajasthan Royals before landing at PBKS. Interestingly, apart from the spinners category, Yuzvendra Chahal is also the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL.
