Virat Kohli punched out an enterprising 49 from 34 balls against LSG in match number 23 of the IPL 2026 season. Chasing 147 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the cricketer belted six boundaries and a six as the RCB franchise made lightwork of LSG bowlers.

It is worth noting that Kohli came up with this match-winning knock on a trail of battling an injury concern. Several reports indicated that the legendary right-hander might even have to miss RCB’s home game against the LSG on April 15, before eventually finding his place in the team as an opener once again.

After decimating the visitors, the 37-year-old has now given an official statement regarding his injury and any prior concerns that were reported in the media.

Virat Kohli confirms recovery update after match-winning knock

While speaking after RCB’s comprehensive win over the visiting LSG side, legendary opener Virat Kohli confirmed that he is currently feeling better than his team’s previous game this IPL 2026 season. However, the cricketer also stated that he is still not at 100 percent, as he was “under the weather” for the last few days.

He said “Yeah, much better than the last game. I'm still not 100%. I was sore last game. I was under the weather for the last four-five days.”

Kohli reflects his match-winning knock

Reflecting his match-winning knock against the LSG, the modern-day batting behemoth stated that he was happy with his “intensity” on the field. However, Virat Kohli lamented his dismissal at 49 to Avesh Khan as he wanted to remain unbeaten for his side till the finishing line.

The 37-year-old added “I started off well today. I was happy with my intensity. Would have loved to carry on and finish the game. The wicket slowed down. You have to take conditions.”

What gave rise to Virat Kohli’s injury concerns?

Virat Kohli scored a sluggish 50 off 38 balls for the RCB against Mumbai Indians on April 12 last weekend, even though the team mounted 240 in 20 overs overall. The senior batter also watched his team from the sidelines during the Mumbai Indians run chase.

Shortly after the match, both he as well as RCB captain Rajat Patidar confirmed Kohli’s injury update, stating that the batter was looking better at that time.

On April 14, he was spotted training in the nets along with the rest of his RCB colleagues. Interestingly, the cricketer was spotted with a strapped leg as a precautionary measure.

RCB vs LSG: As it happened

Winning the toss and opting to field first, RCB bowlers restricted the LSG franchise to just 146 in 20 overs, with Rasikh Salam taking sensational figures of 4-24. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also picked up three wickets in the innings, while Josh Hazlewood delivered a tight spell of just 1-20.

In response, Virat Kohli belted 49 off 34 balls and forged a decisive second-wicket partnership with Devdutt Padikkal. The defending champions eventually blazed past the visitors in just 15.1 overs with five wickets in hand.
