The Gujarat Titans are heading home to the Narendra Modi Stadium to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final on Sunday, May 31, at 7:30 PM (IST). This is the fourth time the teams will meet this season, with RCB winning two and GT winning one.

Having defeated the Rajasthan Royals comfortably by 7 wickets in Qualifier 2, the Shubman Gill-led outfit now stands a chance to avenge their drubbing in Qualifier 1, where Rajat Patidar and co. beat them by 92 runs.

GT eye revenge vs RCB

The last time these two teams collided was earlier in the week in Dharamsala, where the Titans asked RCB to bat first. The defending champions were up for the challenge and got off to a flying start, courtesy of their top-3.

What followed after Rajat Patidar’s arrival at the crease was absolute mayhem. Having consolidated for a couple of overs after Jason Holder’s double-wicket over, Patidar went all guns blazing and scored 93 off just 33 with 9 towering sixes. GT looked clueless and conceded 254/5 in 20 overs.

In response, they lost both their openers within 3.1 overs, and the middle order failed to hit back at the Royal Challengers. Rahul Tewatia scored 68 off 43 in a lost cause, and they were bowled out for 162.

Now, as GT go back to their den to play the final, where they have dominated throughout the season, it is a golden opportunity for them to level the season’s scoreline at 2-2 and lift their 2nd title.

What won the last GT vs RCB match in Ahmedabad?

The last time these two teams played in Ahmedabad was just days after RCB defeated GT in Bengaluru. The match took place on April 30, when GT put RCB in to bat first, and RCB started with Virat Kohli hitting five consecutive fours against Kagiso Rabada.

However, RCB couldn’t sustain the momentum and collapsed soon after. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Jacob Bethell on 5(5), followed by Kohli’s dismissal to Rabada at 28(13) in back-to-back overs. Devdutt Padikkal fought hard for his 40(24), but thanks to a complete team effort from GT, they were bowled out for 155 in 19.2 overs.

Arshad Khan picked 3/22 (3.2), while Rashid Khan had a great game, picking 2/19 (4).

Shubman Gill scored a quick-fire 43(18), followed by Jos Buttler’s 39(19) and ended any chances of a comeback for RCB as the score read 92/3 in 7.3 overs. Rahul Tewatia’s composed 27*(17) made sure there was no bump in the road, and they chased down the score in 15.5 overs and won by 4 wickets.

RCB aim for historic title defence

One of the most prominent franchises in world cricket, RCB had to wait 18 long years to finally lift their maiden IPL trophy in 2025 with a formidable unit, dominating throughout the tournament.

They backed this form and played another near-perfect season, topping the table with 18 points and winning Qualifier 1.

Now, they have a golden opportunity to lift their second trophy in successive years. Previously, only the Chennai Super Kings (2010-2011) and the Mumbai Indians (2019-2020) have successfully defended their titles in the league’s history.
