Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the Tri-Nation series with a spectacular fielding effort, as his flying catch helped Anshul Kamboj dismiss Afghanistan batter Khalid Taniwal.

India's batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi grabbed the limelight for the wrong reasons following his physical altercation with Vishen Halambage

The controversial incident earned massive backlash for the youngster, and he entered the high-voltage clash against Afghanistan-A in pursuit of a comeback.

Although Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 38 runs, he put up a magnificent fielding effort in the second half, putting all the buzz around his fitness to rest.

The incident occurred during the sixth over of Afghanistan-A's innings when Imran Mir was batting alongside Khalid Taniwal.

Chasing a mammoth target of 320 runs, the Afghans lost opening batter Hassan Eisakhil early in the innings, bringing Khalid Taniwal into the middle at number three.

As Anshul Kamboj bowled a full-length delivery around the middle stump, Khalid Taniwal used his wrists to perfection and played a flick shot. Although he was destined to clear the infield, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi timed his jump to perfection and grabbed a sensational catch.

Sooryavanshi silences his critics in style

The ball had initially popped out of his hand, but Sooryavanshi ran backwards and managed to hold on to it with a full-stretch dive.

His marvellous effort spoke volumes for his commitment to the team, also silencing his doubters who questioned his fitness during the IPL 2026.

Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finished the IPL 2026 as the highest run-getter. He hammered 776 runs at a blistering strike rate of 237.31, claiming the prestigious Orange Cap in the tournament.

However, his participation as an impact player in most of the IPL 2026 matches brought undue criticism for Sooryavanshi. Critics questioned his fitness standards, doubting whether he could play the longer formats.

But Sooryavanshi exhibited his athleticism and forced Khalid Taniwal to make his way back to the hut. His stunning effort not only highlighted his work ethic but also helped the youngster convince the selectors about his readiness for 50-over cricket.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's topsy-turvy run in Sri Lanka Tri Series

The Tri-Nation series in Sri Lanka provided Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with a golden opportunity to prove his mettle and stake a claim in India's ODI squad.

While he has made it into the T20I setup, Sooryavanshi has yet to get a glimpse of 50-over cricket for the senior team.

However, the young batter has blown hot and cold in the competition so far. He has managed only 117 runs in four innings at a modest average of 29.25.

Although Sooryavanshi has registered a magnificent strike rate of 153.95, he would definitely like to work on his consistency to emerge as a potential asset for the Indian ODI team.
