When you are on top, everyone will praise you, but the same people will come back to bite you once you fail to deliver the goods. This is exactly what happened with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was at the peak of his power after the IPL 2026, but in the ongoing tri-series, he has crumbled under immense pressure.

At 15, Sooryavanshi is still a kid, and his development as a player and as a human being is the responsibility of the people around him. At such a young age, people do get carried away, and the same happened with the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi in the tri-series match against Sri Lanka, a couple of days ago.

Abused hurled at Sooryavanshi, teenager responds back

In the India A vs Sri Lanka A match, the contest went down to the wire as both sides scored 265 runs, and the match went to the Super Over. India A needed 17 runs to win, and Sooryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge were the openers sent by the management.

With the lights fading, the ball sighting became difficult as the Indian batters failed to achieve the target. After the win, Sri Lankan side had an animated celebration, and one of the players hurled abuse at the Indian teenager as he snapped.

Sooryavanshi responded back as he and a couple of Lankan players came to blows, and had to be separated by the players. The southpaw was criticised for his outburst, as many felt the opener crossed the line.

Sanjay Manjrekar drops bombshell on Sooryavanshi

Almost all the former Indian players criticised Sooryavanshi, and the latest to join the party was the outspoken Sanjay Manjrekar

The former Indian cricketer posted a tweet, slamming the youngster, and stated that had he been the Indian coach, Sooryavanshi wouldn’t have played the match against Afghanistan A.

"If I was India A coach or manager I would have left Vaibhav Suryavanshi out for this game v AFG. Only to let him know that’s it’s not OK to get physical on the field. Whatever the provocations," Manjrekar tweeted.

Manjrekar didn’t mince his words as the teenager was slammed for his sudden burst on the field against Sri Lanka A.

Sooryavanshi's flop show in the tri-series tournament

The Rajasthan Royals opener was the best player in the IPL 2026 as he smashed 776 runs and finished as the highest run-getter in the tournament. As a result, the 15-year-old was picked in the T20I squad for the upcoming UK tour.

In the ongoing tri-series tournament, Sooryavanshi has not been at his best as he has only accumulated 117 runs in four matches, and while the strike rate has been in excess of 150, the average has only been 29.25.

He started the competition with a score of 14 against Sri Lanka A, and it was followed by a clinical 44 against Afghanistan. However, Sri Lanka found a way to dismiss him in the next game as Sooryavanshi only registered a score of 21.

In the ongoing match, the Afghans also found a way to trap him as Sooryavanshi looked uncomfortable before Dawoodzai trapped him for 38.
