Rohit Sharma’s passion for all things automotive is no secret, as the legendary Indian opener holds a wide range of luxury cars in his gallery. His collection reflects both his refined taste and his deep-seated affinity for elite craftsmanship.
That same passion, however, showed a different side when one of his prized possessions ended up bearing the brunt of his moment of frustration. The incident seemingly occurred on Friday, March 27, i.e., just a day prior to the launch of the IPL 2026 season when a short viral video circulating on social media featured Rohit Sharma hitting the back of his car with annoyance.
Rohit Sharma appears agitated before IPL 2026
Rohit Sharma appeared to be angry at his driver just a day before the launch of the IPL 2026 season. Surrounded by security personnel and cameramen at a parking area, the former Indian cricketer hit the back of what appeared to his precious Black Range Rover car.

Frustrated while trying to open its trunk, Sharma hit his car and yelled at his driver “Arre khula nahi, pura khol yaar.” (It is not open yet, open the trunk).

Given the timing, Rohit Sharma’s outburst could reflect a fleeting moment of intensity just before IPL 2026 as players gear up for the demands of a two-month-long campaign. Either that, or the moment may have been nothing more than a brief isolated outburst with no bearing on his mindset before the tournament.
In any case, the moment still came as a surprise, given Sharma’s otherwise composed demeanor and his well-known attachment to his prized vehicles.
Rohit Sharma’s car collection
Rohit Sharma boasts an enviable collection of luxury vehicles. While he reportedly brought his black Range Rover a couple of years ago, the Mumbai Indians icon also has a Lamborghini Urus SE, a Tesla Model Y, a BMW M5 and a Mercedes-Benz GLS 400d in his collection.
Moreover, he also has a Skoda Laura and Toyota Fortuner. The BMW M5 he owns is the special Formula 1 Edition, a model he had long admired and once described as one of his dream cars.
Rohit Sharma gears up for record IPL season
In any case, Rohit Sharma is now gearing up for the upcoming IPL 2026 season for the Mumbai Indians franchise. The five-time IPL winning captain was retained by the franchise last year alongside fellow seasoned pros like skipper Hardik Pandya, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and others.
Notably, the IPL 2026 season also marks Sharma’s 19th straight appearance in an IPL event, making him one of only four cricketers in history to have played every IPL season to date since its inauguration in 2008. He is joined by MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey for the prestigious record.
As per the IPL 2026 schedule unveiled by the BCCI earlier this week, Sharma and the rest of his Mumbai Indians colleagues will be taking on KKR first-up on Sunday, March 29. The match will be hosted by the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
