The Indian Premier League has always been a game of high thrill and intensity, and what adds to that excitement are the voices behind the commentary panel.

The commentators are always a large part behind IPL’s success, yet Star Sports and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the official broadcast partners of the league, have now found themselves trapped in a puzzle box with PSL 2026, given the alleged involvement of former England cricketer and renowned commentator Nick Knight.

As IPL 2026 is set to begin from March 28 with the exciting clash between RCB and SRH, the commentary panel that will boast 12 languages with over 120+ voices, announced their star cast that includes Nick Knight and an unpleasant tussle with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Who is Nick Knight, And Why Is He In The Middle Of Controversy?

Nick, a former English international cricketer and now a prominent commentator for Sky Sports, has been known for his proficiency in a successful domestic career for Warwickshire. Starting with Essex before joining Warwickshire, he captained the latter, leading them to the County Championship title in 2004.

After a short yet glorious span of ODI and Test career, he played the 2003 World Cup and hung up his boots from the game to immediately join as a commentator for Sky Sports.

Besides being the voice behind the mic, he also performs as a cricket pundit and an analyst. A respectable voice in sport, he is known for his engaging analysis as he has completed many stints for the PSL as well as the Indian Premier League.

BCCI Steals Nick Knight From PSL 2026 Commentary Panel

Nevertheless, a recent announcement from Star Sports has agitated Pakistani fans. Knight, who was already named in the English commentary panel for the Pakistan league on March 23, has been renamed by Star Sports on March 27 for their English commentary panel as well.

Besides respectable names like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, among others, Knight has been announced as one of the star voices in the star-studded commentary panel for Star Sports and JioStar.

This has put the spotlight on the Board of Control for Cricket in India, given the potential poaching of the commentator.

The Potential BCCI vs PCB Fiasco Over Knight

This might reflect poorly on the Indian cricket board. It is to be noted that PSL 2026 began on March 26 and will end on May 3, 2026. Meanwhile, the Indian league will start from March 28 and will end by early June, 2026.

Hence, the presence of Knight in both these mega tournaments calls for a potential clash between the two leagues over who will get the services of the expert.

What Options Does Nick Knight Have?

As it seems, Knight is likely to manage these stints through consecutive rather than simultaneous options.

As the PSL will conclude before a month the IPL finishes, it is possible that Knight will be doing his stint for Pakistan till the month of May and then join the IPL commentary panel from May onwards till the end of June.

However, another possibility with conflict of interest picks up the fact that he might completely snub Pakistan to join the latter’s commentary stint.

While this remains a hot topic of debate, the mega tournament will feature former CSK star and India veteran Ravichandran Ashwin in the Hindi commentary panel alongside other stars like Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, among others.
