Kolkata Knight Riders star batter Rinku Singh is currently in the spotlight after a training camp video went viral on social media. As IPL 2026 is just a week away, KKR have started intense preparations for the tournament.
The team is working hard in training camps and practice matches to make sure they start the season on a strong note. Notably, last season was difficult for the team as they finished in 8th position and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
This was a major drop in performance after winning the IPL title in 2024. As a result, they managed to win only five matches out of fourteen.
KKR preparing strongly for IPL 2026
This year, KKR look like a much stronger team as they spent a lot of money in the auction and bought prominent players like Cameron Green and Matheesha Pathirana. Meanwhile, the team also has many options for the opening batting position.
Notably, overseas players Finn Allen and Tim Seifert are strong contenders for the opening slot. Among Indian players, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi are also good options. Rachin Ravindra is also part of the squad and he performed well in the T20 World Cup recently.
Sunil Narine is another experienced option who has opened successfully for KKR in previous seasons. Therefore, the team management has several opening combinations to choose from this season.
However, the final decision has not been made yet. Captain Ajinkya Rahane will likely decide the opening pair after a few intra-squad practice matches before the first game.

Tim Seifert not new to KKR
It is important to note that Tim Seifert has been part of KKR earlier as well. He was included in the KKR squad during the IPL 2021 season after joining as a replacement player in 2020. However, he did not get many chances to play at that time and played only one innings for the team.
Tim Seifert form before IPL 2026
Notably, KKR bought Tim Seifert for ₹1.50 crore in the IPL 2026 auction held in Abu Dhabi. The Kiwi batter is coming into the IPL after a very strong performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. He was the highest run scorer for New Zealand in the tournament and the second highest overall.
Seifert scored 326 runs in eight innings with an average of 46.57 and a strike rate above 166. He also scored four half-centuries in the tournament. This performance makes him an important player for KKR this season.
Meanwhile, KKR will start their IPL 2026 campaign on March 29 with an away match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. After that, they will play three home matches at Eden Gardens against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
