Team India got jolted early in the series-opening first T20I against England at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, July 1. After losing Sanju Samson for just a single, blistering number three Ishan Kishan made his way back to the dugout just a couple of deliveries later in the second over of the match.
As it happened, Kishan was involved in a horrible mix-up with Indian opener and SRH teammate Abhishek Sharma. It is worth noting that the attacking Indian wicketkeeper-batter also got run out in his previous T20I outing just a couple of days ago against Ireland in Belfast.
Ishan Kishan pays the price after mix-up with SRH teammate Abhishek Sharma
The demons from Ireland came back to haunt Team India’s famed top-order, as the ‘Men in Blue’ once again lost the early wickets, this time against England in the first T20I of their fresh five-match series.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India lost opener Sanju Samson and number three Ishan Kishan both within the first two overs of the match. The latter of the two cricketers got run out after a massive mix-up with SRH teammate Abhishek Sharma just two deliveries into his innings.

Desperate to get off the mark, the left-handed batter worked Saqib Mahmood’s length delivery towards the right of midwicket before setting himself off for a run. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma was watching the ball and decided against taking the run after a diving Harry Brook intercepted the ball.
Ishan Kishan turned back and made a full-length dive, but a throw from Brook caught the Indian stumper just short of his crease. As one can expect, an angry Abhishek shouted at Ishan for the mix-up, and the number three batter eventually made his way back to the dugout for a two-ball duck.

Abhishek Sharma leads India’s recovery with record knock
With Ishan Kishan falling for a two-ball duck, run out survivor Abhishek Sharma went on to make the most of his reprieve. The attacking left-hander blasted 59 runs off just 24 balls with six cracking boundaries and four huge sixes.
Abhishek shared a counterattacking 82-run partnership with number four Shreyas Iyer to take India closer to the 100-run mark around the halfway stage of the innings. Through the course of his knock, the young opener also completed 100 sixes in his T20I career, thus becoming the fastest cricketer in history to scale the landmark figure, in terms of number of balls faced.
India charts 189-7 in 20 overs
Apart from Abhishek, captain Shreyas Iyer also struck a regal 68 off 47 balls with six boundaries and a six. His innings, coupled with Shivam Dube’s slog-overs cameo helped India chart a competitive total of 189-7 in 20 overs.
For England, comeback man Saqib Mahmood picked up three wickets in the high-scoring innings at an expense of just 33 runs.
