The innings also marked Steve Smith’s second half-century of the ongoing PSL 2026 season. Earlier in the tournament, the cricketer struck a match-winning 53 off just 35 balls for the Multan Sultans against the Quetta Gladiators back on April 5 in Lahore.
Playing his maiden PSL season, the 36-year-old has so far minted 231 runs in just eight innings at an average of 28.87 and with a staggering strike rate of 148.07. Steve Smith’s prolific PSL pretty much echoes his BBL 2025-26 heroics earlier this year for the Sydney Sixers.
Multan Sultans solidify themselves at number two
RawalPindiZ won the toss and opted to bat first. Opening batter Shahzaib Khan was dismissed for a four-ball duck by Mohammad Imran, while captain Mohammad Rizwan struggled to get going in his sluggish 26 off 29 balls.
Daryl Mitchell at number three punched out a regal 58* off 46, and Dian Forrester blasted 37* off 15 deliveries with three boundaries and three sixes to surge RawalPindiZ to a competitive 166-4 in 20 overs.
In any case, Steve Smith’s batting heroics at the top, and captain Ashton Turner’s blistering cameo blazed Multan Sultans past the RawalPindiZ with relative ease. Registering their sixth win of the PSL 2026 season in eight matches, the Multan Sultans franchise has now solidified itself at number two on the eight-team points table.
They are trailing only behind hitherto unbeaten Peshawar Zalmi at the top of the standings.
With 12 points in eight matches, Multan Sultans will now face Hyderabad Kingsmen in match 33 of the tournament on Wednesday, April 22.
