Mohammad Rizwan continues to endure a nightmare T20 run this year. In his latest outing as RawalPindiZ captain, the former Pakistan skipper was dismissed for a sluggish 26 off 29 deliveries against Multan Sultans in match number 31 of the PSL 2026 season.

The cricketer managed just one boundary and one six in the innings as he consumed several dot deliveries in the process to maintain a below par strike rate of 89.65. The 33-year-old got his struggling stay at the crease curtailed by rising Pakistan star Arafat Minhas around the halfway stage of the innings after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Mohammad Rizwan stumped, figuratively and literally!

Shortly after getting a nod of approval from RawalPindiZ owner Ahsan Tahir, team captain Mohammad Rizwan registered yet another batting failure this PSL 2026 season. Opening the innings for RawalPindiZ against Multan Sultans at the National Stadium in Karachi, the senior wicketkeeper-batter registered just 26 runs off 29 balls with a boundary and a six.

Rizwan got beaten in flight by Multan Sultans spinner Arafat Minhas in the 11th over of the innings, when he attempted to dance down the track only to miss the ball completely. Sultans’ wicketkeeper Josh Philippe aptly completed a sharp stumping behind the stumps to send RawalPindiZ skipper packing back to the pavilion.

Quite literally stumped behind the wickets, Rizwan also appeared figuratively stumped in his approach as he failed to read Arafat Minhas’ turning delivery.

T20 struggles mount for Mohammad Rizwan

Mohammad Rizwan, once a regular member of the Pakistan T20I XI, has fallen out of national contention owing to his lacklustre returns in the format. Even in the BBL 2025-26 season for the Melbourne Renegades earlier this year, the cricketer accrued just 187 runs in 10 innings at a dismal average of 18.70 and with an underwhelming strike rate of 102.74.

In the ongoing PSL 2026 season itself, Rizwan has aggregated only 133 runs in eight innings of the tournament at a below par average of 16.62.

Rizwan gets owner’s approval despite RawalPindiZ winless streak

Mohammad Rizwan was appointed as captain of the RawalPindiZ franchise for the PSL 2026 season. Under his leadership, the team has suffered seven defeats in succession and is yet to notch up a single win in the tournament.

Notably, earlier this week, Rizwan received the verbal backing of none other than RawalPindiZ owner himself, Ahsan Tahir.

Backing Rizwan despite RawalPindiZ’s winless streak, Tahir said “I'm pretty sure that under Rizzy's captaincy, we will develop a champion team. And that will be for years to come, Inshallah. I'm very confident of that.”

RawalPindiZ chart 166-4 in 20 overs

RawalPindiZ, batting first, managed to cart a competitive total of 166-4 in 20 overs. Senior New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell top-scored in the innings by scoring 58* off 46 balls.

Dian Forrester blasted 37* from just 15 to provide the slog-overs impetus to his side. It is worth noting that RawalPindiZ started off the game by slipping to 6-2 in the first two overs of the match.
