In a significant development, the BCB announced a 15-member Bangladesh squad on Tuesday for the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand, starting next week, April 27 in Chattogram, drawing immediate attention.

The two sides are currently engaged in a tightly fought ODI series, level at 1-1 after two matches, with the decider scheduled for Thursday. Amid this intense contest, squad decisions for the T20Is have added further curiosity amongst fans.

One notable omission is Nahid Rana, who has been brilliant in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand with his performances. Despite his form, he has not been included in the T20I squad, a move that has sparked discussions and raised questions.

In-Form Nahid Rana Omitted from Bangladesh T20I squad vs New Zealand

The omission of Nahid Rana from Bangladesh's T20I squad for the series against New Zealand comes as a major surprise given his outstanding form in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand, where he has been Bangladesh’s most effective bowler.

Rana is currently the highest wicket-taker in the series with six wickets in two matches, including a match-winning five-wicket haul in the second ODI. Despite such impactful performances, selectors appear to have opted to rest him ahead of the T20I series.

Adding to the surprise, veteran pacer Mustafizur Rahman has also been left out of Bangladesh 15-member T20I squad for a similar reason. With several new faces included, Rana’s exclusion still raises questions, given his young T20I career and recent form.

Nahid Rana’ T20I Squad Snub Clears Path for PSL Playoffs

Nahid Rana’s omission from the Bangladesh T20I squad for the three-match series against the New Zealand has quietly opened the door for his return to PSL playoffs, just as the business end of the season approaches.

The young pacer, who has been part of Peshawar Zalmi squad in the ongoing PSL 2026, had picked up seven wickets in four matches earlier in the tournament before heading back home for national duty in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand.

With Nahid Rana not included in the T20I squad, the timing has raised eyebrows, as it potentially allows him to rejoin Peshawar Zalmi, who have already qualified for the PSL 2026 playoffs starting April 28, overlapping with Bangladesh’s T20I series against New Zealand.

Latest Update on Nahid Rana's Availability for PSL 2026 Playoffs

There is no official confirmation that the BCB intentionally favored the PCB, allowing Nahid Rana to be available for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2026 playoffs, but the timing of his T20I omission raises discussion.

Given the recent working relationship between BCB and PCB, and recent instances like PSL 2026 where BCB NOCs were extended beyond initial timelines, such decisions are not unprecedented. While nothing is officially stated, the perception of indirect advantage for PSL continues to be in attention.
