Steve Smith smashes record BBL century [Source: @BBL/x]
Steve Smith blasted a 41-ball century as Sydney Sixers made lightwork of Sydney Thunder’s monumental 189-run total in match number 37 of the BBL 2025-26 season at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Opening the innings alongside Babar Azam, Steve Smith clattered five fours and nine huge sixes to set up a comprehensive win for the Sixers, also tendering David Warner’s first innings hundred in vain.
Through the course of his SCG run-chase masterclass, the legendary Australian batter also racked up a slew of some rare and elite batting records, and fittingly bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ as Sixers remain in contention for a place in the BBL 2025-26 knockouts. Here is a look at all records broken by Steve Smith with his latest match-winning knock.
Joint record with David Warner in T20 cricket
Steve Smith clobbered 100 runs off 42 balls to win it for the Sydney Sixers at the SCG. Earlier in the game, Sydney Thunder opener and captain David Warner also smeared 110* off 65 balls. This marks only the second instance in the history of T20 cricket, where two players over the age of 35 scored centuries in a single T20 game.
Worcestershire’s Graeme Hick and Northamptonshire’s Lance Klusener previously achieved the feat back in 2007 during a T20 Cup match in England.
Joint most runs in a single BBL over
Steve Smith rained down on Sydney Thunder fast bowler Ryan Hadley with a huge 32-run over in the 12th over of the Sydney Sixers innings. Smith launched Hadley with four successive sixes, before the fast bowler sent down a no-ball that was belted for a boundary. Another wide and a double to finish off the over ensured Steve Smith extracted 30 runs off Hadley in just six deliveries, as the legendary Australian batter achieved the record of scoring the joint-most runs in a single BBL over.
