Litton Das for Bangladesh [Source: AFP]
Priorities became futile after Litton Das had to pull out of the Lanka Premier League 2026, for which he even rejected his national side. The Bangladesh T20I skipper and the star batter of the Bengal Tigers withdrew his name from the upcoming LPL 2026 tournament just days ahead of its inauguration.
For the unaware, Litton Das was cleared by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to play the tournament and was unavailable during the Zimbabwe tour to remain fit and play in Sri Lanka's domestic cricket league.
Litton Das withdraws from the Lanka Premier League
Litton, who was signed by the Galle Gallants ahead of the tournament for over USD 60,000, pulled out of the cricket league due to physical hindrance. The cricketer’s decision comes just two days before the tournament kicks off in Sri Lanka on July 17.
Galle Gallants will find it difficult to replace a wicketkeeper-batter with 2702 T20I runs under his belt. The primary reason for Litton’s withdrawal, though, was an injury he suffered earlier this year.

Why did Litton pull out from playing for the Galle Gallants?
Litton is currently nursing an injury and is rehabilitating in Dhaka after suffering a left calf/hamstring injury during the ODI series against Australia. Following the injury, Litton was ruled out of the entire Zimbabwe ODI series as well as the T20Is.
The unfortunate setback has also ruled him out of the Lanka Premier League, where he was set to make his debut for the Galle Gladiators. During the third ODI against Australia, Litton Das experienced discomfort in his leg while batting and was unable to continue his innings.
He left the field immediately and has been recovering ever since, which further complicates his recovery and explains his decision to pull out of the Lanka Premier League.
Litton Das as a franchise player
As a franchise player, Das has featured in four tournaments, including the Lanka Premier League, the IPL,, Bangladesh premier League and the Caribbean Premier League.
In franchise cricket, he has scored 2,645 runs at an average of 24.49 while striking at 129.52. For the Galle Gallants, he scored 34 runs in the 2023 LPL, failing to make the impact that was expected ahead of the upcoming 2026 season.
What’s next for the skipper?
As for Das, his recovery is continuing, and his decision to pull out of the entire Lanka Premier League indicates that the injury is serious and will take some time to heal.
Bangladesh will play Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series, which concludes on July 19, and there is a chance that Litton could return to the national side for the Test series against Australia in August.
If he is not fully recovered by then, he could instead make his comeback during Bangladesh's tour of South Africa, which begins in November. Until then, the Bangladesh team's sole priority will be Litton Das' rehabilitation and recovery.
