England is currently taking on India in the first of the three-match ODI series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and right during the middle of the game, the Three Lions have added a fresh face to their ODI squad for the remaining two matches.
The ECB has carefully managed the workload of their bowlers, and with Jofra Archer injury-prone, the team doesn’t want to take any risks as speedster Brydon Carse gets added to the England ODI squad for the second and third ODIs against India.
Brydon Carse added as England add pace firepower in ODI squad
In the latest development, the ECB has added right-arm pacer Brydon Carse to the ODI squad against India. Carse was always in the scheme of things for the hosts, but he sustained a hand injury during the IPL 2026 and was ruled out of the tournament.
The pacer also suffered from an elbow injury, and after playing three matches for Durham in the Vitality Blast, the England selectors have included him in the ODI squad vs India.
He last appeared in an ODI format for England during the match against New Zealand in Wellington in November 2025.

Why England added Carse in the ODI squad vs India?
Just 30 overs into the first ODI match between India and England, and there is already enough evidence that pacers will play an important role for the team that wins the series. Out of the 30 overs bowled by India so far, spinners have only been utilised in three overs, while the pacers have delivered 27 overs.

England have lost 6 wickets, and interestingly, all have been taken by the pacers, suggesting that the surface during the IND Vs ENG ODIs will favour the fast bowlers.
With Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and Jasprit Bumrah wreaking havoc, the England side have decided to add another pacer in the squad as Carse will bring in additional pace firepower.
The Edgbaston wicket has some bounce, and Carse has the ability to utilise it as the pacer could turn out to be England’s X-factor.
Brydon Carse's ODI record at a glance
The right-arm pacer has played 30 ODI matches for England in the ODI format, and he boasts a decent record in this format.
The fast bowler has bagged 34 wickets in the 50-overs format, and he averages 40.44, with an economy of 6.34. Interestingly, out of his 34 scalps, 25 have come in English conditions, and as a result, the ECB decided to use his expertise against India in the remaining ODI matches.
One thing has to be noted: Carse averages 83 with the ball against India, but he could be effective against them in tricky English conditions.
