Vinod Kambli, a former Indian cricketer and a very close friend of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar haven’t been keeping well with his health. After almost 18 months of his serious health concerns, the ex-cricketer again risks a health issue that might turn fatal.
Almost a year after his sickly appearance at the Ramakant Achrekar memorial inauguration, Vinod Kambli now risks a brain stroke due to his poor habits and unhealthy lifestyle in recent times. Kamble’s close friend, Marcus Couto, recently revealed that he has asked for help from Kambli’s cricketer friends, most likely involving Sachin Tendulkar.
What Happened to Vinod Kambli?
Once regarded as one of the finest batters of his era, Vinod Ganpat Kambli was a contemporary of the batting great Tendulkar. However, an early career decline sidelined him from the spotlight, with almost no visibility in the public eye in the last decade until the Ramakant Achrekar memorial inauguration on December 3, 2024.
It is then that the 54-year-old appeared unable to stand and feeble on his knees. His appearance immediately struck concern, as in the same month, he had to be admitted to the hospital with a complaint of blood clotting in the brain.
Kambli was a prey to an ill lifestyle and several heart diseases that troubled him since 2012. Now, his alcohol addiction has surfaced, which further reveals his risks of succumbing to a fatal attack.
Sachin Tendulkar Probably In Kambli’s WhatsApp Group
Kambli, who is under constant medical guidance, earlier received help from Tendulkar and partial advice from Kapil Dev; however, given the recent deterioration of his health, Marcus Couto revealed that help has again been sought due to the struggling condition of Vinod Kambli.
“I have formed a WhatsApp group including his friends – mostly cricketers –, and without taking names, they contribute a lot financially. His memory isn’t good, but over the last six months, it hasn’t declined either. He can’t remember much, but when something clicks, he does. Otherwise, it gets difficult for him.
Vinod has a clot in his brain, which cannot be removed because he did not take precautions early. And the doctor has suggested that he could have a brain stroke. Because of his willpower, he is conjuring whatever he can,” Marcus told The Hindustan Times Digital.

Will Vinod Kambli Recover Soon?
Kambli is in a delicate situation at the moment. The close friend of Sachin Tendulkar risks losing his life with a brain clot like a ticking time bomb on the way to his recovery.
However, Marcus assured that the ex-India cricketer has been stable for days now. He had recovered more than fifty per cent when he was treated at a reputed private hospital; however, a funding shortage halted the treatment.
“When he was treating him at Breach Candy, Vinod had recovered nearly 60 per cent. But since we were short on funds, we couldn’t keep him there for long. One friend sponsored his one day’s expenses turn by turn. Finally, we had to leave the hospital. Every time a friend would sponsor for 3 days or 5 days.
But how can they do it every day? We were even suggested to take him to a general hospital, but it’s very difficult there. People are more interested in the elite these days. I don’t think he is going to recover, but even if he stays stable, we are more than happy. He should not deteriorate,” Marcus added.
Tendulkar and Kambli's Relationship
For the unaware, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli were best friends during their days and played 101 international matches.
While the duo represented India in the 1992 and 1996 World Cups, they also have an unbroken 664-run partnership for Shardashram Vidya Mandir in a 1988 Harris Shield match.
