Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Virat Kohli was seen being shushed by a fourth umpire during the RCB vs MI IPL 2026 clash on April 12. While Kohli, one of the most influential personalities of cricket in the world, himself was amused by the move, a hilarious reaction from the RCB star followed.

The RCB vs MI clash was won by Rajat Patidar & Co, however, it was not the dream outing for Virat Kohli. The veteran injured his ankle while batting and sat in the dugout for the rest of the match. From the dugout, Kohli was seen pulling off some hilarious antics, which required the BCCI officials' intervention.

What Did Kohli Do In The RCB vs MI IPL 2026 Clash?

As RCB was defending a score of 241 at the Wankhede Stadium, Virat Kohli was a spectator for the fielding side. However, his antics continued off the field as he was involved in a banter with RCB all-rounder Krunal Pandya.

During the match, as Krunal Pandya was walking alongside the boundary line for his fielding duties, as soon as he walked past Kohli, the latter started making gestures towards Pandya, possibly indicating umpiring blunders in the match.

Virat Kohli was seen shouting and showing loud hand gestures towards Krunal Pandya for a good 10-20 seconds before the fourth umpire standing beside the RCB dugout walked in.

As Pandya was enjoying Kohli’s animated actions, the BCCI official stepped in to break off Kohli’s conversation with Pandya. As soon as the umpire stepped in, Kohli gave a huge smile and mimicked shushing with a finger on his lips.

Why Did The Fourth Umpire Shush Virat Kohli?

As a part of the Playing Control Team on the field, the fourth umpire holds a disciplinary right to exercise their power near the boundary lines. They can stop players from the dugout from interacting with on-field players as a part of the protocol.

The umpires even have the authority to keep a close watch on coaches of both dugouts to prevent any communication with the on-field players.

What Was Kohli Possibly Saying To Krunal Pandya?

Although in the clip going viral, Kohli’s voice was not captured, from the gesture of Kohli’s hands, it can be understood that he was referring to ‘gaps’ and ‘wides’, indicating either a failed Wide decision by the umpires or a mistaken LBW review.

On behalf of the RCB legend himself, he bore the brunt of RCB’s DRS cost as he burnt two reviews by himself, challenging ‘wide’ decisions of the on-field umpires.

While batting, in both challenges, the on-field umpires got to retain their decisions of ‘not wide,’ leading to a face loss for Kohli himself.
