West Indies Test Squad Vs Sri Lanka Announced (Source: AFP Photos)
Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Wednesday (June 17) announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Among the news, Alick Athanaze, who was a West Indies regular in Tests for a while, has been dropped.
Alick Athanaze made his Test debut in 2023 and has been in the West Indies middle order since then. Unfortunately, his record in red-ball cricket went from bad to worse over time.
After making 112 runs in his first three innings in 2023, Athanaze’s Test average went down to 24.88 in 2024. He could only muster 448 runs in 18 innings, followed by 221 runs over 12 innings in the following year. As a result, the West Indies had no choice but to drop him from the Test squad.
Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, Joshua Da Silva Return
On the other hand, Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph, two of the West Indies most prolific pace bowlers in recent times, have returned to the mix. They will join Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales, making the attack look fearsome for the opposition.
Both Shamar and Alzarri could not play the West Indies tour of New Zealand and India last time because of injury woes. However, with Shamar recently making headlines in the T20Is, the return of both fast bowlers gives a lot of boost to the West Indies, who are currently placed at the bottom of the nine-team World Test Championship (WTC) table.

In another development, Joshua Da Silva is also back in the mix for the West Indies Test Squad Vs Sri Lanka. Da Silva, the wicket-keeper, missed out when Tevin Imlach was preferred with the big gloves in New Zealand. However, he will now be back, and so will be Amir Jangoo, who played his only Test match for his country in Pakistan last year.
Roston Chase To Continue As West Indies Captain
Meanwhile, Roston Chase will continue to captain the West Indies in Test cricket. He will have Jomel Warrican as his deputy, with the likes of Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Kavem Hodge and Justin Greaves all keeping their places in West Indies Test Squad Vs Sri Lanka.

West Indies Vs Sri Lanka Tests Full Schedule
The Sri Lanka tour of West Indies 2026 already had three ODIs and three T20Is. While Sri Lanka won the ODI leg after winning the first match, followed by two washouts at Sabina Park, Sri Lanka had the last laugh in the T20Is by winning a nail-biter in the third T20I.
Now, the focus will shift to the Tests, which will begin on June 25 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound. The second Test will also happen at the same venue, from July 3 onwards.
