There was a lot of buzz, and rightly so, surrounding the debut of the 15-year-old prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. he wreaked havoc in the IPL 2026 season and finished as the highest run-getter (776 runs), and as a result, the BCCI selection committee was quick to pick him for the UK tour.

His debut was derailed by the Gautam Gambhir-led team management, and they received a lot of flak before the star player was finally handed his India debut in the second T20I against England.

However, three games into the T20I series, Sooryavanshi has failed to deliver the goods. His scores have read: 14, 13, and 15, as the England batters have found a weakness in his armour, and the BCCI is keeping an eye on it.

Problems for Sooryavanshi as BCCI monitors his performance

According to reports by Vipul Kashyap from ANI, the BCCI is closely monitoring India’s performance in the T20I series against England, and they have been especially keen on how Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma perform.

While Abhishek has still performed with the bat in the Ireland, and the England matches, the same cannot be said about the 15-year-old star.

The report added that BCCI appreciates that Sooryavanshi and even Abhishek want to hit every ball for a six, but they still need to control their instincts and play the ball on its merit.

While the top order looks settled as India aim to give ample matches to Sooryavanshi, there is a belief that he needs to play according to the lines, lengths, and the fielding positions.

How England has exposed the Indian batters, especially Sooryavanshi

Even before the T20I series started, England captain Harry Brook warned Sooryavanshi that they have plans ready for him, and the Three Lions have lived up to that. In all three games, the hosts have come in with a clear plan, and it has worked.

In the second T20I, Sooryavanshi was stumped out, but in the third and fourth T20I, his weakness was exposed by Jofra Archer. He used a barrage of hard-length deliveries to make the Indian opener uncomfortable before he nicked on to the keeper.

Similarly, in the fourth T20I, Archer once again bowled a hard-length ball as Sooryavanshi tried to pull the ball and was caught and dismissed.

Why England used the hard-length tactics against the Indian batters

Most of the Indian batters are used to playing on flat Indian wickets in the IPL, where there is hardly any bounce and nothing left for the fast bowlers. However, that is not the case when playing in England.

In England, the bowlers do get that extra bounce, and the shots which are played in the IPL are not easy to execute in England; often the batters tend to top-edge the ball, and it happened with Sooryavanshi as well.

On Indian pitches, the ball doesn't rise as much as it does in England, and thus, the batters have ample time to pull the ball. However, in England, the batters need to adjust to the bounce, and this is where the likes of Sooryavanshi and even Ishan Kishan have suffered.
