India’s 15-year-old wonderkid, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, has reached Ireland with the rest of the Indian team for his first senior tour. The southpaw is all set to shatter Sachin Tendulkar’s record by becoming the youngest player to play for India.
Vaibhav is just 15, but all eyes are on him after his heroics in IPL 2026. For the unversed, the Rajasthan Royals’ opener won the orange cap for amassing 776 runs in 16 innings, which forced the selectors to include the youngster in the senior team.
BCCI Makes Special Exemption For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Since it is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s first senior tour, the BCCI has taken extra care of the youngster. Prior to leaving for Ireland, the Devajit Saikia-led board made a special exemption, allowing Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him for the UK tour.
Saikia revealed that having parents around will help the youngster calm his nerves before his international debut.

"When such a young kid is part of the senior team, there are obviously a lot of issues that can crop up. Therefore, to make him comfortable and help him get used to an adult environment, where all the other players are above 18 years of age, and the team management members are also adults, we felt it would be helpful," Devajit Saikia remarked.
For the unversed, when Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut in 1989, his brother had accompanied him.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi To Have His Own Dressing Room During UK Tour
In the latest events, a report from The Guardian has mentioned that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will have his own dressing room during the UK tour. For the unversed, the ECB and the ICC have a law that forbids players under the age of 16 from using the adult dressing room.
Sooryavanshi will be allowed to be present in the dressing room, use the facility and meet his teammates during the match. However, he will not be allowed to change in the dressing room before and after the match. For that, the ECB have already made special provisions.
Notably, Sooryavanshi is not the only player below 16 facing such an issue. Arsenal star Max Dowman, who is 15, is also given a seperate changing room at the Emirates as he is prohibited to enter the Arsenal dressing room.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Looking To Extend Golden Run With The Bat
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been in terrific form. As mentioned above, the 15-year-old had a great IPL 2026. His next assignment was India A tri-series in Sri Lanka which involved Afghanistan.
The 15-year-old didn't had a great series but recovered in the final. With aggressive intent, the youngster slammed 211 runs in 5 innings, averaging 42.20. Notably, in the final, he scored 94 (29), which featured 10 fours and 8 sixes. His knock helped India A win the series.
