On Wednesday, June 24, the ICC updated their weekly ranking charts. The past week had it all - England vs New Zealand Tests, India-Afghanistan ODIs, and Sri Lanka-West Indies T20Is. Several players saw a massive shuffle across the table, and we have a new No.1 in the Test batter and bowler category.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was the No.1 Test bowler, has now been challenged by a New Zealand seamer, while Harry Brook too has been dethroned as the No.1 Test batter.
Matt Henry Joins Jasprit Bumrah As New No.1 Test Bowler
For the unversed, New Zealand’s Matt Henry is now the joint-no.1-ranked Test bowler alongside Jasprit Bumrah. Both seamers have a rating point of 870. The Kiwi seamer made a stunning jump of six spots to join the India legend.
Matt Henry had a brilliant 2nd Test against England, where he picked up 11 wickets and helped the BlackCaps level the series 1-1. Henry picked up a fifer in the first innings and followed that up with a six-wicket haul in the 2nd innings to register the best-ever bowling performance by a New Zealand bowler against England in a Test match.
Joe Root Becomes New No.1 Test Batter
In the batting category, Joe Root has reclaimed his No.1 Test ranking. Harry Brook held the throne for a brief period, but Root’s fifty in the 2nd Test has helped him go past his teammate. Root missed out on a fifty in the first innings, but followed it up with a 77-run knock in the 2nd innings.
