After being ruled out of IPL 2026 playoffs due to a finger injury, Bethell has now received a major fitness update following RCB's big win against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, securing qualification for the final.

The young England star returned home earlier for medical assessment, creating concerns for both RCB and England. However, a fresh update regarding Bethell’s recovery has now emerged ahead of the upcoming international assignments.

IPL 2026 Ruled-Out RCB Opener Jacob Bethell’s Comeback Date Confirmed

In a significant development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed Jacob Bethell is expected to be fit for the opening Test against New Zealand starting from June 4 at Lord's Cricket Ground after recovering from his finger injury.

“He will continue to be monitored in the lead-up to the first Test against New Zealand. He is expected to be fit to play in the match,” ECB said on Wednesday.

Jacob Bethell earlier returned from IPL 2026 after suffering the injury while representing RCB in the league stage game against Punjab Kings. The setback forced him to miss the playoffs despite becoming an important part of RCB’s batting lineup recently.

England had earlier recalled the 22-year-old to closely monitor his recovery before the crucial Test series against New Zealand. However, the latest fitness update, as reported by Daily Sun, has now eased concerns as Bethell is expected to make his comeback in the opening Test.

There was constant discussion around Jacob Bethell continuing in IPL 2026 instead of returning to county cricket ahead of an important summer for England’s Test side. Several former cricketers and experts also shared different opinions regarding the youngster’s preparation.

Despite the outside noise, Bethell continued to remain in India for most of the tournament with RCB. The young left-hander spent a major part of the first half warming the bench before eventually finding opportunities later in the season.

Bethell later opened the batting for RCB in the absence of Phil Salt, who also suffered an injury during the tournament. The 22-year-old featured in seven matches, scoring 96 runs at an average of 13.71 before his injury setback.

England recently announced their squad for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, with Bethell remaining a crucial inclusion. 

The youngster is expected to bat at number three after an impressive start to his Test career, scoring 476 runs at an average of 43.27, including a century in the Ashes.

Bethell’s injury during IPL 2026 earlier created major concerns for England ahead of the important home summer.
