The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scripted history by lifting the IPL 2026 title at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, May 31. Chasing 156 against the Gujarat Titans, RCB legend Virat Kohli struck the winning blow as the franchise became only the third side in history to successfully defend its IPL title.

Amidst the euphoria and title-winning jubilation, RCB player Tim David has now been penalized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his on-field misconduct in the final.

Tim David punished by BCCI for misconduct

RCB batter Tim David has been punished by the BCCI after his team’s historic title win. The hard-hitting Australian batter has been penalized 50 percent of his match fees for breaching Level 1 of the IPL's Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials.

The cricketer was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”

As per the official IPL website, the cricketer also accumulated two demerit points for his misconduct.

The incident occurred during the 10th over of the Gujarat Titans innings when Tim David threw an ice bag aggressively towards the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon.

The 30-year-old admitted to his offence and accepted the sanctions imposed by match referee and former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath.

It is worth noting that this was not the first instance of Tim David finding himself at the wrong end of BCCI’s wrath this IPL 2026 season. Moreover, the latest instance marked David’s third Level 1 offence of the tournament.

Previously, he committed his first offence during RCB’s away match against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. He committed his second offence, also against the Mumbai Indians, albeit in match 54 of the tournament in Raipur.

Moreover, at one stage, he even wildly celebrated in front of Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta after his team’s comprehensive win in Dharamsala last month.

Having collected five Demerit Points so far, the Australian cricketer will now be suspended for one IPL match next year.

Tim David played all of RCB’s 16 matches of the IPL 2026 season, aggregating 305 runs at an average of 33.88 and with a strike rate of 188.27.

He struck just one just half-century, blasting 70* runs off just 25 balls against the CSK franchise in Bengaluru in a match-winning cause for his side.

However, on the day of the final, he scored just 24 off 17 balls before he was dismissed by Arshad Khan.

RCB defends IPL title

RCB decimated Gujarat Titans by five wickets and with two overs to spare in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad.

After Rasikh Salam restricted the Titans to 155-8 in 20 overs, legendary opener Virat Kohli struck 75* runs off 42 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes to seal the deal for his side.

The outcome helped RCB become only the third side in IPL history to win successive titles, joining Mumbai Indians and CSK for the huge record.
