Tensions flared at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB vs GT clash in IPL 2026 as Suyash Sharma gave a fiery send-off to Shubman Gill after dismissing him in the first innings.

After winning the toss, RCB opted to field first. Phil Salt was announced injured, and Jacob Bethell replaced him. However, the home side had a shaky start as GT openers fired from ball one.

Suyash Sharma clashes with Shubman Gill

Sai Sudharsan slammed his first century of the IPL 2026 season, and he built a 128-run opening partnership with captain Shubman Gill.

While Sudharsan was batting with intent, the Gujarat Titans skipper played the supporting role until Suyash Sharma ended his stay at the crease.

It was a clever googly, slightly short, tempting Shubman Gill into the big shot. Gill tried to take the aggressive route, but mistimed it badly. The ball went straight to Devdutt Padikkal, who completed a simple catch.

As soon as Padikkal held on to that catch, Suyash Sharma was pumped, and he sent off Gill by copying the latter’s hat-off celebration. Meanwhile, GT skipped, chose not to respond and walked back to the dressing room quietly.

With that dismissal, Gill walked back on 32 off 24 balls, which was a decent start but not quite the impact innings Gujarat Titans would have hoped for, especially on a batting-friendly surface like this.

Shubman Gill’s form in IPL 2026

That being said, Shubman Gill has been in good form in IPL 2026. In 6 games so far, he has scored 297 runs at 49.50 average and 149.24 strike rate. He is standing third in the Orange Cap race.

This is a crucial phase for Gill after being dropped from India’s T20 World Cup 2026 team due to poor performances.

Until this game, Gill was performing alone for his team. However, Sai Sudharsan has finally picked up pace, as his century will further boost GT in the second half of the tournament.

With 3 wins in 6 games, the Gujarat Titans are placed 7th on the points table. Hence, they need this win today to climb up the order.

GT in control despite losing openers

Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans are in complete control at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Sai Sudharsan brought up a brilliant century (100 off 58), while Shubman Gill supported him with 32 off 24 to lay a perfect opening foundation.

Even after losing both set batters, Jos Buttler walked in and immediately upped the tempo with a quickfire 22 off 11, ensuring there was no slowdown in momentum.

From RCB’s perspective, wickets from Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma have come a bit too late, with the pitch offering very little assistance to the bowlers.

At 170/2 in just 16 overs, the Gujarat Titans are now eyeing a massive total in the 210-230 range, and with hitters still to come, RCB are under serious pressure heading into the death overs.
