England all-rounder Jacob Bethell entered the big stage of IPL 2026 with defending champions, RCB. The highly rated player made his season debut on April 24 against the Gujarat Titans.
Bethell, 22, made his international debut in 2024 and instantly grabbed the spotlight as the next big thing in England cricket. He quickly became an all-format player and has already played close to 60 games.
Meanwhile, in franchise leagues, Bethell has played The Hundred, Vitality Blast and IPL.
Jacob Bethell journey with RCB
That being said, Jacob Bethell was first introduced in the IPL 2025 season. He entered the mega auction at a base price of INR 1.25 crore. SRH and RCB saw his potential and immediately got into a heated bidding war.
But RCB were firm on having the all-rounder into their squad and eventually won the round to bag Bethell for INR 2.60 crores. That same year, the all-rounder made his debut in the IPL but managed to get only two games.
Regardless, he turned out to be the lucky charm for RCB as the franchise broke their 18-year-old trophy drought to win their maiden IPL title.
In IPL 2025, Jacob Bethell played two games for RCB, scoring 67 runs at a 171.19 strike rate. He scored one half-century and hit 9 fours and 3 sixes. That year, however, Bethell didn’t get any opportunity to bowl.
Meanwhile, in IPL 2026, Bethell made his debut late into the season against the Gujarat Titans. While he was serving on the bench, former cricketers like Alastair Cook advised the all-rounder to head back to England to prepare for the upcoming red-ball series.
However, Jacob Bethell had to honour his contract, and hence, he chose to stay back with RCB. As for RCB, they value Bethell’s all-round skills deeply. As a result, when Phil Salt got injured, they turned to Jacob for a like-for-like replacement.
Jacob Bethell IPL 2026 price
As for his earnings, Jacob Bethell is getting paid INR 2.60 crore by RCB in IPL 2026. After fetching that hefty contract in the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB chose to retain him for the same price for the following season.
Since RCB won their maiden IPL trophy in 2025, the management decided that it was in their best interest to retain the core team, and Bethell fortunately happened to be a part of that core set-up.
With respect to the skill and talent Jacob Bethell brings to the table, his price tag for IPL 2026 is completely justified. RCB knows his worth, and hence, his retention was a no-brainer choice.
For Bethell, IPL is a big platform to improve as a T20 player. Hence, despite limited chances, he is staying loyal to the league.
