Sai Sudharsan was going through a rough patch before the IPL match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but on Friday, the left-handed batter finally broke the shackles as he tormented the defending champions with his sumptuous batting at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

He had blown hot and cold throughout the tournament, but a player of Sudharsan’s class needed a few good overs to get back amongst the run-scorers, and RCB became his victim. He started slowly against the home team, but after a couple of overs, the Gujarat Titans opener showed his class.

Sudharsan becomes the fastest IPL batter to 2000 runs

On a Chinnaswamy wicket that suited the stroke-makers, Sudharsan hardly gave a strike to his partner, Shubman Gill, as the left-handed star found the gaps at will, and also managed to clear the boundary ropes whenever required.

Batting at 66, he smacked a humongous six off Krunal Pandya, and in the process, Sudharsan attained a huge milestone to sit at the top of the pile. With a six, he reached the milestone of 2000 IPL runs, and in the process, became the fastest batter to achieve the feat (47 innings).

Fastest to 2000 IPL Runs (By Innings)

Sudharsan surpassed Chris Gayle, who had attained the 2000 IPL runs milestone in just 48 innings, while former Punjab Kings opener, Shaun Marsh had reached the numbers in 52 matches.

Despite not being at his best in IPL 2026, the Titans opener shattered the long-standing record to eclipse some of the best in the league.
