The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise has dropped a massive update regarding the potential availability of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. It is worth noting that the 23-year-old failed to make it to the SRH playing XI in their previous home game against the KKR franchise in match 45 of the IPL 2026 season this past weekend.
Fans of the franchise have now received an encouraging news from head coach Daniel Vettori, who recently hinted at the return of the youngster.
SRH coach Daniel Vettori says Nitish Reddy on track to return vs PBKS
While speaking with the reporters, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori stated that Nitish Reddy is feeling a lot better now at a time when the team is preparing itself for its upcoming home game against the Punjab Kings.
Vettori added that Nitish will be taking part in SRH’s training session in Hyderabad today, and there is a strong possibility of him making it to the playing XI tomorrow.

He said “I spoke to him this morning and he’s feeling a lot better. He’s going to train today but we don’t foresee a situation where he won’t play tomorrow.”
What happened to Nitish Reddy?
Nitish Reddy was ruled out of the SRH playing XI for the match against the KKR in Hyderabad on Sunday, May 3. Speaking at the toss, SRH captain and legendary Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins revealed that Nitish fell ill prior to the game.
Cummins said “Nitish (Kumar Reddy) misses out due to illness. (Ravichandran) Smaran comes in.”
Prior to his illness, the all-rounder played each of SRH’s first nine matches of the tournament. In eight innings with the bat, Nitish Reddy scored 193 runs at an explosive strike rate of 160.83, which included a sizzling 33-ball 56 against the LSG.
He also picked up six wickets with the ball, albeit at an expensive bowling average of 38.
SRH regain winning momentum, on the verge of number one spot
The SRH franchise, under the interim leadership of Ishan Kishan, started off the IPL 2026 season by sustaining three defeats in their first four matches of the tournament.
However, the ‘Orange Army’ bounced back by registering five wins on the trot. During their newfound winning sequence, the franchise was also bolstered with the return of its regular captain Pat Cummins.
The team did suffer a shock defeat against a struggling KKR side this past Sunday by seven wickets and with 10 balls to spare. With six wins and four defeats from 10 matches, the franchise is currently ranked third on the IPL 2026 points table.
The SRH franchise now has a unique opportunity to become the number one side on the competition, if they manage to defeat fellow batting powerhouse Punjab Kings on May 6. The much-awaited match between the two in-form sides will be hosted by the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
