KL Rahul has looked a completely different player this IPL season, playing with a calm mind and sharp intent. Every innings has reflected his timing and confidence, as he mixes elegance with aggression and keeps finding ways to dominate bowlers across phases.
For the Delhi Capitals, he has been the backbone in their batting lineup, stepping up when needed and setting the tone at the top of the order. His presence has brought stability, while his shot selection has made him one of the most reliable performers this season.
With a key game coming up against CSK at Delhi Capitals’ home ground, KL Rahul reflected on his journey so far. While he stopped short of outright criticism, his words carried some hint that decisions from the BCCI may have influenced the course of his India career especially in the T20 format.
KL Rahul Reflects on Not Being Rated as a T20 Player
The conversation around KL Rahul as a T20 batter has often divided opinions, but this IPL season has clearly pushed him into the positive spotlight. With consistent and impactful performances for the Delhi Capitals, Rahul has answered many of those long-standing doubts in style.
Speaking on the ‘Superstars’ segment on JioStar, KL Rahul reflected on his journey and the perception he carried early in his career.
“I was never rated as a T20 player or even considered a good white-ball player; was branded a Test player. So, to break out of that mold, develop my white-ball game and come this far is something I’m really proud of. Along the way, I have made mistakes. But what I’m proud of is that I have given my absolute best,” KL Rahul said.

While Rahul didn’t directly call anyone out, his words subtly point toward how he was viewed and handled in the system, possibly hinting at the role of the BCCI in shaping that perception. It’s also worth noting that despite being in strong form now, Rahul has not featured in a T20I for India in over three years.
What stands out, though, is the evolution. Rahul himself acknowledged the mistakes, but the current version of his T20 game in Delhi Capitals looks far more assured, aggressive, and adaptable. Right now, he is not just part of the conversation anymore, he is redefining it.

KL Rahul now looks like a completely transformed T20 batter, blending consistency with intent. There were flashes of this version before the COVID-19 phase, but this season feels like a full return. With a clearly defined role at Delhi Capitals, he has maximised the powerplay brilliantly, freshly making new records every game.
What stands out is not just the numbers, but the shift in approach from KL Rahul in IPL 2026. From being questioned for his strike-rate to now leading the batting charts, KL Rahul has answered it all. He is not just scoring runs anymore, he is setting the tempo and becoming the face of Delhi Capitals’ batting this season.
