Mumbai Indians Told To Have 'Honest Conversation' With Jasprit Bumrah Amid IPL Rut

Mumbai Indians snapped its three-match losing streak with a comprehensive win over the LSG in match number 47 of the IPL 2026 season earlier this week. Jasprit Bumrah’s form, however, continues to remain a primary area of concern for the Mumbai Indians management.

The legendary fast bowler went wicketless in the game, leaking 45 runs from his four overs at an expensive economy of nearly 12.

Moreover, it took Bumrah as many as six matches to pick his first wicket of the tournament this season, and he has since added only two more wickets to his tally off his next four appearances.

Undergoing the worst phase of his IPL career, the Mumbai Indians team management has now been advised to have a “honest conversation” with the senior Indian paceman.

MI should ask Bumrah if he is “feeling 100%”, believes Krishnamurthy

Former India women’s cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has advised the Mumbai Indians team management to have a chat with struggling fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

While speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Krishnamurthy said that fellow senior members like Suryakumar Yadav and former captain Rohit Sharma should both ask Bumrah if he wants to take a break for a match or two.

She added that a break at this stage might do him a world of good as the speedster will return to the team rejuvenated and fresh.

Veda Krishnamurthy said “We are in that space that the management, or coach or even captain - Suryakumar Yadav is pretty close to him, he is the vice-captain of the squad - and Rohit Sharma is around, they can probably honestly sit and have a chat. Ask him: ‘are you feeling 100% from within’; ‘do you want to take a break for a game or so’. So that he comes back fresh.”

Jasprit Bumrah not used correctly, says Sanjay Bangar

Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar is of the opinion that Jasprit Bumrah is trying too hard to make amends for his underwhelming returns this IPL 2026 season, as evidenced by his bowling speeds.

Bangar also indirectly blamed Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya for not using his premier speedster correctly.

He said “He is trying very, very hard and it's very unlike Bumrah to go for 31 in the first two overs. An average pace of 134 with the fastest being 141 [in the game]. So he is trying his heart out - you can see it in his body language that he is hurting - but I just feel that he is not being used correctly. He was bowled in the second over, then again in the fourth over.”

IPL 2026: A season to forget for Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in each of his first five matches of the IPL 2026 season for the Mumbai Indians. The cricketer snapped his wicketless run with a match-winning spell against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on April 20, dismissing Sai Sudharsan in the game.

Overall, the senior fast bowler has picked up just three wickets in 10 innings of the season so far at an atrocious bowling average of 109.66 and with an expensive economy of 8.89.

Not long ago, Bumrah lifted the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup for the Indian team, and picked up the joint-highest wickets in the tournament.

With four more matches remaining for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, the 32-year-old will be aiming to rediscover his rhythm and deliver impactful performances to help his side secure a playoff berth.
