On August 19, 2026, India’s Mixed Disability team beat England at Lord’s in the seventh and final T20 match of their series, and they paid a tribute to former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly with a wild celebration.

India batted first and scored 206/4, their highest total of the seven-match series. England struggled badly during the run chase and were bowled out for just 88, thus handing the men in blue a massive 118-run victory.

India’s mixed disability team pays tribute to Sourav Ganguly with shirtless celebration

After the series victory over England, India’s mixed disability team removed their shirts and waved them in the air while celebrating on the Lord’s balcony. Players and support staff cheered as they soaked in the proud moment.

Interestingly, this act was a recreation of Sourav Ganguly’s famous celebration at Lord’s in 2002. In the 2002 NatWest Trophy final, India chased down a massive 326-run target and won the thrilling clash at Lord’s.

Ganguly famously took off his shirt and waved it from the Lord’s balcony in celebration. It was a fiery response to Andrew Flintoff's shirtless celebration, which the English allrounder had done after powering his team to a series-levelling win over India at the Wankhede Stadium prior to the NatWest Tri-series.

24 years later, India’s Mixed Disability team recreated that iconic moment at the same venue.

Why did the disability team take their shirts off?

Sourav Ganguly took his shirt off at the Lord's balcony to release his frustration towards Andrew Flintoff. But were India's mixed disability team provoked to do the same? Not really.

In fact, India had no logical reason to celebrate that aggressively as they had already lost the series 3-4. So, the Lord's victory was just a symbolic morale-boosting victory to save their pride as a team.

All in all, the shitless celebration of India's mixed disability team happened in the spur of the moment. It had no meaning or context to it as Sourav Ganguly had in 2002, and perhaps that's why the latter's celebration still remains iconic.

India-England rivalry at Lord’s

The iconic Lord's cricket ground has always been a home to the great India-England rivalry. While England stand ahead in the head-to-head count at 19-6, the men in blue have had their moments of glory as well.

For instance, in the NatWest Trophy final in 2002, India chased down a mammoth total of 326 runs to script history, and Sourav Ganguly's shirtless celebration made the victory even more iconic.

Not only that, in 2021, India produced one of their most memorable Test wins at Lord's. After setting England a target of 272, India bowled them out for 120 inside 60 overs to win by 151 runs.

The rivalry produced another thriller at Lord’s in 2025. England eventually beat India by 22 runs, with the match going down to the final stages of India's chase. Hence, Lord's remains the defining venue of the famous India-England rivalry.
