The ICC ODI World Cup 2027 is still more than a year away, but the discussion around India’s squad has already started.
The tournament is set to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, and the discussions around India’s possible 15-member squad have already gathered pace, with several players and cricketers pitching in with their predicted squad.
Recently, a former India player and CSK veteran has shared his India playing XI for the 2027 World Cup.
Robin Uthappa Picks India’s Squad For ODI World Cup 2027
Former Indian opener and CSK veteran Robin Uthappa has picked his 15-member India squad for the 2027 World Cup. On Wednesday, August 19, the CSK veteran revealed his choices through a video shared on his Instagram account.
Uthappa has backed Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as his first-choice opening options. He has also included 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as another option at the top of the order.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's selection is the biggest surprise in the prediction, considering he is yet to play an ODI for India.
In the middle order, the CSK veteran has picked Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. KL Rahul and Sanju Samson have been included to provide additional wicketkeeping and batting options.
It is important to note that Uthappa have picked both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The selection of the star duo is significant because their participation in the 2027 World Cup remains a major talking point.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Gets Backing Alongside Rohit And Gill
One of the highlights of the Uthappa’s squad selection is the inclusion of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young player has been the talk of the town after he emerged as one of the most exciting names in Indian cricket and the IPL.
For Uthappa, Sooryavanshi could develop into a backup opener behind Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill by the time the 2027 World Cup arrives.
No Place For Washington Sundar; Hardik Pandya Included
In CSK veteran Robin Uthappa's squad, there is no place for Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar in the middle and all-round options.
Hardik Pandya has been included as the main pace-bowling all-rounder, while Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel provide spin-bowling depth. Kuldeep Yadav is the specialist spinner in the squad.
The bowling unit includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. Uthappa has also made a surprise call by selecting Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Harshit Rana Among Others Not Picked
Several players who could be in contention for India’s 2027 ODI World Cup plans have missed out from Uthappa’s prediction. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are among the most notable omissions.
Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy have also not been included.
