Days after the historic Sunday night in Ahmedabad when India secured the record third T20 World Cup, the team’s dominant performance is still being talked about. Much like the 2024 win, a formal demand for a special felicitation from the civic bodies has been made for the squad members and the support staff.

The BCCI has already announced a prize money of a whopping 131 crore INR for the whole Indian contingent. Apart from the BCCI’s gesture, further rewards and formal celebrations are still expected after Shiv Sena in Maharashtra got involved and asked to recognise the efforts and honour Suryakumar Yadav and co. in Mumbai.

Shiv Sena asks for grand celebrations after T20 World Cup win

In a recent development in Mumbai, one of Shiv Sena’s corporator Ameya Ghole, wrote an application to Mayor Ritu Tawde to invite the players and celebrate the win in a grand fashion. In his letter, he highlighted Mumbai cricket’s role in India’s cricketing landscape and felt a celebration was a must to commemorate the back-to-back titles in the city.

“The Indian players have glorified the name of the country across the world through their outstanding performance, determination and team spirit. This is a proud moment for every Indian,” he said.

“Mumbai is known as the sports city of the country. Therefore, it is a humble request that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation organise a grand civic felicitation of the Indian national cricket team to celebrate such an unprecedented success,” he added.

It is worthy to note that, as mentioned by the corporator, the captain of this side, Suryakumar Yadav and star finisher Shivam Dube both hail from Mumbai. A celebration in the city would be a fitting tribute to the duo’s role in the win.

Will India do a bus parade after T20 World Cup win?

India’s T20 World Cup 2007 and 2024 wins were both celebrated with massive open bus parades along the famous Marine Drive on their way to the Wankhede Stadium. The whole team was present on both occasions, and players were felicitated by the BCCI.

So far, there is no confirmation regarding any such celebration to mark the iconic third title. The players have reached their homes two days after the win. However, the parade is not ruled out yet. The team members could meet the Prime Minister as they did in 2024, and a celebration could still take place in Mumbai.

As of now, only speculations around how the win is celebrated are made, and any official announcement is awaited.

India’s run to historic third T20 World Cup

The Suryakumar Yadav-led team started their campaign with a bit of a hiccup against the USA, after they were reduced to 77/6 in the first innings. Yadav’s epic 84*(49) helped them bounce back and win the match by 29 runs before they went on an unbeaten run in the group stages, also thumping Pakistan on their way.

The only match they dropped in the competition came against South Africa in the Super 8 stage, when they suffered a 76-run loss. Sanju Samson’s introduction to the XI turned out to be an instrumental factor as he scored 97*, 89 and 89 in the last three matches to help India lift the title. He was awarded the Player of the Tournament for this.

Jasprit Bumrah played an equally important role in the win, as he picked the most wickets in the tournament and was awarded as the POTM in the final.
