The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 came to its conclusion with India comprehensively defeating New Zealand in the final by a margin of 96 runs.

The Men in Blue completely dominated the proceedings from the first powerplay of the match itself, scoring 92 runs. All three top-order batters in Sanju Samson (89), Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54) contributed with fifties, followed by a cameo by Shivam Dube. Then Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel led the bowling unit to complete the title defence on home soil.

The tournament saw some incredible performances throughout the course of 55 matches, with 20 teams involved in the proceedings. While fans witnessed a shocking group stage exit for Australia, the feel-good stories like Zimbabwe and Italy lit up the tournament. As we head into the new cycle of the T20 World Cup, here’s a brief look at the Team of the Tournament.

ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament

Top-order batters: Sanju Samson (wk), Tim Seifert, Ishan Kishan

Sanju Samson was a late entry in the tournament after he missed the initial games. However, his three consecutive fifties in the business end of the competition accumulated 321 runs at a strike rate of 199.37 to help him win the Player of the Tournament award. He will be the first opener and wicketkeeper of this team.

Alongside Samson will be Tim Seifert, who is preferred over the likes of Sahibzada Farhan due to his impact in New Zealand’s wins and run to the final. He scored 326 runs at a strike rate of 166.32 and four fifties to his name. He also scored fifties in the semi-final and final of the tournament.

Ishan Kishan will follow the duo at 3 after finishing as the fourth leading run-scorer with 317 runs at a strike rate of 193.29 with three fifties. He scored a high-impact 77(40) against Pakistan on a difficult surface as an opener before playing with the same intent at number 3 in the knockouts. He also got a fifty in the final.

Middle-order and All-rounders: Shimron Hetmyer, Sikandar Raza, Shivam Dube, Will Jacks, Axar Patel

The middle-order will consist of Shimron Hetmyer at number 4. He was promoted up the order by the West Indies, and he lived up to his potential and scored 248 runs at a strike rate of 186.46 with two fifties to his name.

He will be followed by Sikandar Raza, who led Zimbabwe to a historic Super 8 finish. He played crucial cameos against Australia and Sri Lanka, causing successive upsets and finished the tournament with a 73 and 3/29 against South Africa. He had 206 runs at a strike rate of 165.80 and 5 scalps to his name. He will also be the captain of this side.

Toppling Hardik Pandya in this team will be Shivam Dube, who scored 235 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 169.06. Including in the final, these runs came in crunch situations and helped India with an added cushion of runs when some of the top-order batters struggled to get going. He can also be an extra bowling option.

The spin-bowling all-round department will be led by Will Jacks, who ruled the tournament with 226 runs as a finisher at a strike rate of 176.56. His finishes ensured England's route to the semi final alongside the 9 wickets he picked to claim four POTM awards. He was also in contention for the POTT title.

Axar Patel will end this long batting lineup at 8, who can play as a floater, who can bat in any situation as per the team's needs. He picked up 8 wickets in the competition, including 3/27 in the final and plucked incredible catches in the semi-final but did not get to batmuch.

Bowlers: Lungi Ngidi, Blessing Muzarabani, Jasprit Bumrah

The three frontline pacers of the team of the tournament will be Lungi Ngidi, Blessing Muzarabani and the joint leading wicket-taker Jasprit Bumrah.

Lungi Ngidi was instrumental in the Proteas remaining unbeaten till the semi-final. He picked 12 wickets at an economy of just 7.19 runs per over when some of his partners struggled for rhythm. Ngidi showed exemplary control through the phases of play and exhibited slower ones to perfection. He was also in the running for the POTT award.

Another Zimbabwe representative here will be Blessing Muzarabani, who is the joint-second in the wicket-takers’ list with 13 wickets. As the lead pacer, with Ngarava out from most of the games, he was a constant threat and played a big role in their dream run.

The playing XI will be capped by none other than Jasprit Bumrah. He was the POTM in the final against New Zealand, conceding only 15 runs for his four wickets. He took his wickets tally to 14 scalps and ended the tournament at an economy of just 6.21. He was the point of difference in the semi-final as well, when Jacob Bethell almost pulled off a 254-run chase.
