PCB announces rules for PSL 2027 auction, player retentions, purse cap | PC- AFP
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hell-bent on taking every possible measure to make the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL 2027) season regal and magnificent.
As in the previous edition, the PSL 2027 will once again feature an auction, which has become the norm across leagues worldwide.
PCB releases details for PSL 2027 auction rules, player retentions, direct signing
Ahead of the massive PSL 2027 auctions, the PCB has put out all necessary details about the retentions, direct signings and purse size, after hosting a workshop for all eight franchises at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Thursday.
The PSL franchises could retain a maximum of seven players ahead of the auction, including a direct signing player, if a franchise decides to opt for it.
Notably, the PCB has introduced a new rule allowing franchises to sign their marquee player as a player, provided he has not participated in the last two seasons.
The purse size for each PSL auction will be PKR 45 crore (approx. USD 1.6 million), but if a franchise practices direct signing or retains its direct signing from the last season, or does both, its purse will be increased to PKR 50.5 crore.
All franchises have been told that they would need to spent a minimum of PKR 36.5 crore (approximately USD 1.3 million) during the upcoming PSL auction.
Lastly, the deadline to announce the retentions is January 13, 2027. The PSL 2027 auction will be held ten days later.
PSL 2027 to clash with IPL 2027 for third successive time, but why?
The PSL 2027 is scheduled to be hosted between March 18 and May 2 next year, and it will directly clash with the IPL 2027. This will be the third successive season the two mega franchises clash.
Although the real reason behind PCB's move is uncertain, it likely has to do with the crammed 2027 season, with the WTC 2027 Final and the next ODI World Cup squeezed together in a span of six months.
Not just that, Team Pakistan, just like every other international team, would also need time to prepare itself for the next two marquee events.
