Nicholas Pooran made a shocking retirement decision from international cricket at the age of just 29. Pooran made the announcement publicly in June 2025, leaving behind a career which could potentially become one of the most illustrious ones in the history of West Indies cricket.

Almost one and a half years down the line, Pooran made a comment on the decision he had taken regarding his international career. There, he hinted that the door is not completely shut, and he may return to play for Shai Hope-led West Indies again in the future.

Nicholas Pooran Could Reconsider International Retirement

On Saturday, Pooran was at Nicky P Batting Academy, held at the Kumar Rampat Cricket Academy in Point Lisas. There, he shared his thoughts on a possible comeback to West Indies cricket.

“I've never shut that door completely (on reconsidering international retirement). Time changes fast,” Pooran said, as quoted by Trinidad & Trobago's Guardian.

However, Pooran mentioned that his primary focus at this point is to help the youngsters grow at his academy.

"I don't know what the future holds, but at this moment, this is what my energy and my focus is into," he added.

"As professional athletes, we make a lot of excuses. That's one thing I want to be an advocate of, teaching the younger children that it's not going to be one where you're going to have the perfect opportunity, the perfect atmosphere, perfect surroundings or perfect community.

"Let's not use those excuses to stop us from being the best version of ourselves, especially if we want to be athletes," he shared his views.

A Look At Pooran's International Numbers

Across 61 ODIs, in which he batted 58 times, Nicholas Pooran scored 1983 runs at an average of 39.66 and a strike rate of 99.15, laced with three centuries and 11 half-centuries, before retiring from international cricket.

In T20Is, he played 106 matches and scored 2275 runs at a strike rate of 136.39. He was West Indies full-time white-ball captain as well, and T20 World Cup 2022 was the competition in which he led the country.

Pooran has not played a single Test match for West Indies.
