Pakistan were eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2026 on Net Run Rate's calculation. After failing to restrict Sri Lanka in the given runs, the Salman Agha-led team were knocked out in the Super 8s, as New Zealand qualified over them. After a harsh exit, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has mocked the team, including his son-in-law, Shaheen Afridi.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was dropped earlier in the tournament, turned to play the final two Super 8 fixtures. The left-arm seamer had a good night against England, snapping a four-fer, but he was one of the disappointments for Pakistan in the Super 8 match against Sri Lanka.

The 25-year-old left-arm pacer, Shaheen Afridi, leaked 48 runs in his four-over spell as Pakistan failed to restrict Sri Lanka under 147 runs, which would have helped them qualify for the semifinals.

In the aftermath, the former Pakistan captain, who led them during the 2010 and 2016 editions, has decided to troll his own son-in-law. While chatting on a Pakistan sports show on Samaa TV, Shahid Afridi said Shaheen doesn't want to learn.

"He (Shaheen Afridi) has been playing for sometime now, but doesn't know from where to bowl in the last over. He has been told many times, he should be knowing these things by now. He has been repeating his old mistakes, again and again," Shahid Afridi stated on Samaa TV.

Shahid Afridi further went on to question Shaheen Afridi's game sense, citing how a left-arm bowler can bowl wide to a right-hander while coming from around the wicket.

"You need to understand, when a right-hander is batting, you can't bowl around the wicket. If one still wants to bowl (from that angle), a left-armer has to bowl at the stumps. When the third-man and point fielders are inside the circle, you can't bowl wide yorkers. This angle becomes an easy one for batters to hit on Asian pitches. If you would have bowled from over the wicket, it will have been difficult for batters to hit for a six," the legendary all-rounder added.

Shahid Afridi further also called the current Pakistan team's intension and cited that they do not want to play together as a "unit".

"I don't understand when will these players learn. You don't want to learn, you don't to score runs as well, (against Sri Lanka) we lost eight wickets in 28 runs (36 runs). They don't play as a unit. They are way behind in world cricket, we need to work on our thinking. We are still playing old-fashioned cricket. The problem is we don't want to learn."

Pakistan's harsh exit from T20 World Cup 2026

Last Saturday, Pakistan had a chance to qualify for the semifinals if they had defended their total of 212 runs by 65 runs against Sri Lanka. Thanks to Sahibzada Farhan's historic 100 off 60 balls and Fakhar Zaman (84 in 42), they got a massive total in hand. However, when the batters came to the party, the bowlers disappointed Pakistan.

After two early wickets, the Pakistan bowlers fell flat against the Sri Lanka middle and lower-middle order. Every bowler, apart from Abrar Ahmed (3/23), had a forgettable day at the office. And after the disqualification was confirmed, Pakistan allowed the game to slip away, but were able to defend the total by a mere margin of five runs.

Bowling the final over, Shaheen Afridi gave away 22 runs off the first four deliveries, but he later used his experience to sum up the game with two dot balls.

Nevertheless, the four semifinalists have been confirmed for the T20 World Cup 2026, with South Africa and New Zealand set to play Semifinal 1 on Wednesday in Kolkata, while India will take on England in Mumbai on Thursday.
